  • Bullshit. Firstly, he's not single-handedly saving the planet. Secondly, toxic behaviour tends to poison a whole project and subvert its chances of having a genuinely positive result. Dear gods, the responses in this thread are as bad as any Twitter Musk-worshipping wank fest.

The fact that you have to accuse Musk critics - without any evidence - of climate denial is risible.

  • Hopefully the stuff he's developing and releasing as cars will help develop public transport, I doubt he'd have got much funding to develop a bunch of electric busses or whatever even the works is currently do car centric. It's far from ideal but is at least in the right kind of direction and might lead to other bellends doing better shit.
Also, the people praising some of his shit can surely see he's a cunt and the people calling him a cunt can surely see there's some merit in what he's doing.
Can't we all just get along and slowly die together guys.

  • In large parts of the world with dirty coal power stations (china etc), electric cars have worse emissions than petrol cars.

Sure, that will change in time but I still think VW are going the right way with affordable electric cars rather than toys for the 1% like Tesla. The claim that they are expensive because they are first generation and will get cheaper in the future is utter bullshit.

  • In denial about climate change might not be the same as denying it, but I don't think either has been done on this thread.

  • He ain't "my boi". I think he's a dickhead who isn't doing enough. But guess what, "dickhead who isn't doing enough" adaquately describes nearly every politician, celebrity and businessperson in the entire world.

To mitigate (not solve - way too late already) climate change we need to be pragmatic and make compromises. We need to do it right now. We cannot afford to wait around because some guy sent a mean tweet one time.

  • you've changed, man.

  • Let's just say, anyone who owns and/or drives a fossil fuel vehicle can fuck off slating Musk. Lets see how many really care for the environment.

  • Let's not.

  • I'm not drinking enough at the moment.

  • i'n drunk right now

  • Is Driving a Tesla Better for the Environment? It Depends…

  • I'm off to the big city for corporate sponsored bday booze, fuck all y'all!

  • People were looking for alternative fuel sources years ago: http://viz.co.uk/2014/10/03/mickeys-monkey-spunk-moped/

  • burn one for me

  • you might wanna have a chat with elon about his private jet habit in that case.

  • centrist dads

I'm beginning to think you have 'a thing' about centrist dads.

  • Didn't see that explicitly in the post so I'm taking yours at face value: probably because they can all jog on with Mr Musk too

  • Ace. Since I don't even have a driving license, let alone a car, I reserve my right to call Musk an environment-raping pedo from the comfort of my cargo bicycle built from the bones of the children of right-wing Venezualans.

  • There's worse things you've done

  • Not sure i’m following. Did I think Priuses were cool before and now I’ve changed my mind to like Tesla instead?

  • What happens at Easts stays at Easts

  • Let me come at this from an angle you'll understand.

You are aware of the global consequences of climate change, right? You are aware of which groups of people will be hit hardest and soonest? It is the most egregious example of a privileged minority fucking over the rest of the world for their own gain, by far, which is a cause you profess to care about. To not act now or to deter others from acting is horrifyingly selfish; far, far worse than firing someone who wants to unionise. Tesla employees are not going to die if they're fired. Do you know who will, if we don't do something? Children in poverty on island nations or in Bangladesh or wherever, when their homes are flooded, and disease, famine, drought and violence are rampant.

If you are still driving more than absolutely necessary (which is 0 for most people in cities), if you are doing that driving in an inefficient car, if you are eating meat and cheese, flying, buying everything wrapped in 6 layers of plastic, you are making a statement that a small inconvenience to you is more important than the lives of vulnerable poor people around the world over the coming decades.

If you're whinging on the internet because some Americans lost their jobs in the course of tackling climate change you are saying that those jobs are more important than the lives of vulnerable people around the world.

Obviously, in theory this is a false equivalency - we can tackle climate change without having to sack workers who organise and call people pedos - but where are the people who are doing that? Where are the hundreds of companies and products that are necessary for us to stop catastrophic climate change? They don't exist, because barely anyone cares.

Yes, Elon is a weapons-grade bellend. Don't get me wrong; I know this and I hate it. But it's too late to worry about that. Unless you can offer a better solution, grit your teeth, hold your nose and compromise on your hardcore stance in order to sort the problem out, rather than sitting in your diesel complaining. The best we can do with the options available is tell him off when he does something naughty, hope he doesn't do it again, and wait for someone better to come along.

PS. inb4 some knob pipes up with "you just went to Nepal"

    PPS. parklife, popcorn gifs, etc.

PPPS. my friend's ex went out with Grimes before she was famous

PPPPS. epic fail on my behalf to spend my Friday night writing this bollocks

  • Pretty sure buying a new Tesla is more net environmental damage than keeping an old car running.

  • Curious as to how come?

  • In some cases probably yes. I mean I'd rather people don't buy cars at all
