  • Anyone a fan of the Teeling whiskey here?
I'm after some recommendations for something new to try that's similar in notes (not smokey, sweet,...).
    Thanks

  • ^I'm not a fan, but I've tried most of their line. Ranks below the other Irish whiskies for me, Green Spot and Red Breast being better. If you like the sweetness of Teeling, try Red Breast Lustau. Or if you want to go cheaper, Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition.

  • Thanks @bikes_knob will look out for those.

  • I really shouldn't be buying whisky at the moment, so I'm torn about this one...

Deanston 18 Years, un-chill filtered, 46.3% for sub £50 on the zon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013H3215S/

  • That's a great price and and if you're big into vanilla and toffee flavours I'd go for it, I found it a bit too sweet and dessert like for my tastes but it's very well made like all of the Deanston range.

  • Yeah, I'm generally not a fan of bourbon cask because of the potential for unsophisticated sickly-sweetness, but it's intriguing at that price.

Will I enjoy it more than Glengoyne 15? Doubtful, but there might be only one way to find out...

  • Paddy currently £15 on Amazon. Bargain. I endorse this whiskey (for cheap thrillz)

  • Bulleit was <£17 in my local Tesco Express (Essex Road) today. 'Reduced to clear' so not sure if it's in all shops.

  • it's my mates 50th in a couple of weeks and wanted to maybe get him a nice-ish bottle of Bourbon up to say £100 - he's a fan of High West Redemption Rye and Double Rye - any reccos? cheers

  • Slightly OT but does anyone have a calvados recommendation? Thinking somewhere around the £40 or less? I have hugely enjoyed every glass I've had out and only realised recently that I could replicate this experience at home.

  • not quite calvados, but the somerset cider brandy company 10 year old is delicious and the sweetspot of their range.

  • Cheers, I'll have a look!

  • Black Barrel worth checking out too, probably the nicest in Jameson's range.

  • The Black Barrel is tasty (and an interesting flavour comparison to Jameson's plain stuff) but its price puts it into a very competitive field. I've never bought a bottle (just had a few tastings) but it seems to go for £30-£38, and that's Green Spot/Redbreast territory.

  • Ah, i didn't realise that. I have been lucky enough to have been gifted a couple of bottles. For that price i'd go Redbreast every time.

  • Yes, it's a gimmick, yes I still want it.

  • Meet Metallica's own brand of American Whiskey. Blackened American Whiskey is forged by the earth-shattering music of Metallica. Using their proprietary sonic-enhancement system BLACK NOISE™, the whiskey is pummeled by sound, causing it to seep deeper into the barrel, where it picks up additional wood flavor characteristics. It's a marriage of the finest bourbons, ryes & whiskeys, hand selected by Dave himself. Each of the whiskeys offer unique flavor that play a key role in the final spirit.

  • Bourbon - who cares?

  • 45000 less ex-bourbon casks available to the scotch industry.

  • A vast increase in no 10 char ex bourbon casks flooding the scotch industry..

  • I was at a mate's wedding yesterday. He'd put a bottle of Lagvulin 16 behind the bar primarily for me and one of his family who like whisky.

It was the only whisky and suddenly it all went, turns out another guest was drinking doubles of it with coke and ice. 😭

    Y tho?

  • Because it tastes horrible without coke and ice if you're used to drinking it with coke and ice.

See : my dad when I offered him a drink.

  • Woodford reserve currently £20 at Tesco/Amazon.. may need prime for free delivery, not sure.. but am stocking up
