  • Ouzo/sambuca is aniseed. Tsipouro is grapes. Serbians make Raki aka Rakija out of apricot, peach, plum, quince and pears to name a few.

There’s a weaker honey variety called medovaca that is also great (in Greece we warm it up, called rakomelo)

  • only bought them coz they were cheap

Ditto, the Auchentoshan should see us through the next week at a reasonable price, be it tasty or a bit wayward.

  • Big fan of the Benromach 10. Glengoyne 10 is cheaper and might even be better. Currently £23 on the zon.

  • Glengoyne was my gateway to scotch.

    I bought nikka all malt.
    Blend me.

  • It's not the standard 10 year old it's the 100 proof, I like Benromach and I'm really excited to see how it is at cask strength!

  • Suntory hukushu is part of my Christmas haul. Thanks sis. A Swedish malt from my wife and a Taiwanese whiskey from my parents to top it off some saki. The suntory is sublime.

  • Was that Mack? Or the Smokey Swedish? I swerved them in Clapton craft and went for the blend.

  • I got a bottle of Port Charlotte 10. Well happy, cracking it open soon

  • Great dram, you’ll enjoy it. Different to a lot of the Islay whiskies, and when we tried it at the distillery seems to be much better than some of the previous limited edition ten year olds.

  • I got some of this for Xmas. Very easy drinking. I'm normally a snob for single malt over blends but this is nice.

  • Survived the in-laws, kids in bed. Time for a night cap. Cheers

It was very different. To me I couldn't pick up on the smoke/peat, very very spirity and young, fresh taste. Cask strength I guess that has a lot to do with it. Did enjoy it, will try again later to make sure!

  • Yeah peat comes out more if
you add a drop of water, or leave it the glass for a bit.

  • My paw did a tasting the other week at Glenkinchie near where I grew up; he and his pals had about 10 drams each, ended up at the undertakers knocking back a few more (it’s a small town) and he brought back 3 bottles including this one. Like creosote, raisins and fudge having a rammy, 9.5/10 would bang again.

  • I love those small single cask editions. One day, I will fill my cabinet with them.

  • Visited the Deanston distillery today, really lovely. I'm a fan of the 12 year old but haven't tried much more of their range. Tried a number today in the tasting tour but the 15 year organic was superb, excellent balance and a must try if you like the slightly sweeter side of scotch. I'd recommend it for bourbon fans too.

  • Oh man, me and Mrs EB tried the Deanston 12 recently on a trip to Callander. Not to either of our tastes at all, I honestly thought I'd been served a White Horse or a Bells :/

  • The 12 is definitely dominated by the spirit rather than the cask. Imo it benefits from a teaspoon of water and a good 10 minutes in the glass, the 15 is finished in different bourbon barrels to the 12 and I think the balance is just right, had the 18 year old as well and while it's very well made, all the vanilla and toffee flavours were turned up to 11, too sweet for my tastes.

  • Tried some kind of US or Canadian bourbon out of waitrose.
Is it supposed to taste like it was made from paint brush cleaner. Taste wise was what I was expecting, but imo was as rough as hell

  • Achievement unlocked.

  • How and when did you get it??!?

  • Look. Clearly some sort of unicorn sacrifice was required. RIP Unicorn.

  • It's taken 8 years and I can't reveal my sources..

  • WOAHHH-Show us the bottle then :)

  • Tried some Glenfarclas 12 last night and was underwhelmed. Very raw. Best with a drop of water perhaps?
