Yeah I get that - those were just a few examples that I found poking through the only vegan cookbook that I have (Clean Food by Terry Walters). Still, if I have to spend extra time googling and trawling round shops for substitutes I'm going to be more inclined to sack it off and eat roast veg, beans, veggie sausages, bourbons, etc. again

I spent most of last Xmas reading the woks of life blog, not vegan but some is, and most can be with some substitutions. Once you get a wok and basic Chinesey ingredients (shaoxing wine, soy sauces, some spices, corn starch, seseme oil) and have had some practice you can pretty much always knock up something tasty and good with whatever veg you can pick up and the ginger, garlic and spring onions you buy every time alongside it.

Looks excellent, thank you. I cook a lot of stir fry as it only takes 10 mins, but I need to expand the ingredients list and vary it up a bit. That watercress recipe looks easy/tasty

Only half vegan, but great recipes and super easy. We've cooked loads from it since getting it.

HFW's Veg is great too.

If you're ever in London, go to RASA N16. They've slimmed down the chain (which grew quite big at one point), but the original one is still well worth going to. Most of the restaurant's recipes are in these cookbooks, and they're a really lovely adaptation of Keralan cuisine to British tastes.

I was in London 2-3 weeks ago; I think I would have literally cycled past that on my way from Stoke Newington to Euston, looking for somewhere to get some lunch. What a shame!
Thanks - some of those recipes sound like winners. 6 chutney recipes ought to be enough

I was bought a little vegan amaretto chocolate cake from Konditor and Cook yesterday. I'm not that into cakes but it was amazing!!

I know everyone will already have recommended this, because who isn't a massive Made in Chelsea fan, but I really like Lucy Watson's Feed Me Vegan cookbook.
To be honest I had no clue who she was but a foaf sent me a vegan brownie recipe and it was amazing. I bought it on the strength of that recipe alone and was not disappointed. I've made loads from it and enjoyed them all, which is rare for a cookbook. The only down side is that some of the recipes use vegan cheese, which is something I'm not in the least bit keen on.

Awesome, only £6 as well from the Works. Cheers.
Hope all these recommendations are useful to other people too, I presume there are people looking for Christmas present ideas

This is sad news, but I think Sean's analysis is spot-on:

I've loved having it as my local market, but it's true that it hasn't been very busy in recent months. I do hope it'll still run occasionally on special occasions, e.g. a proper Christmas-themed market.

This is a very interesting article mainly, I think, because alpha-gal allergy sufferers are sensitive to mammal products that occur in all sorts of ways, e.g. medicines:

I'm gonna make a stuffed seitan thing for Xmas but gonna do a test run tomorrow, vague idea is to do a normal seitan loaf type thing and cook it around something then stick something up its fake arse. Anyone done something similar or got any tips? I'm not a recipe type person, but like to see a lot of options and make it up based upon a few that look good.

Which supermarkets are doing vegan mince pies? Can't believe it's the 18th of December and I haven't had one yet. Disgraceful.

Asda and Waitrose Essentials, that I'm aware of. Also, Gregg's is the star of the mass market.
Also, Quorn have finally brought out a vegan sausage - it's pretty good.

Iceland No Turkey Christmas Dinner, £3
Iceland NoTurkey Christmas Dinner
Perhaps you were put into cryosleep and launched in a space rocket to Mars, but when you awoke in 2118 all the other crew were dead. On Christmas Day you found something – a microwave Christmas dinner loaded in the supplies a century ago. And it was supposed to make you feel festive joy, but in your solitary, fragile state you stare sadly at the fake chicken pieces, the weird bits of parsnip and floating cranberries in the water that isn’t gravy so much as brown, chemical-flavoured seepage, and it feels like the final straw.
You eat the meal alone, at your intergalactic monitor in a party hat, quietly grateful it doesn’t make you more upset by reminding you of actual food.
This feels like that.Oh well never mind.

Millet - rice or whatever grains in the cupboard.
Aduki beans - any beans.
Job's tears - crywank over iPhone or grains again.
Tamari - soy sauce.
Radicchio - fuck knows, spinach? Just have beans on toast.
Fennel - fennel, it's easy to get right?
Cashew butter - peanut butter.
