I think I have lost my shit now
Definitely panicking this year before temperatures even drop below zero I have also bought an overkill hat from that company that's now famous for it's cute and fucking expensive little backpacks you see all over Europe.
Of course it's not real fur, but 100% acrylic - yet, looking at the label, it says the hat "contains non-textile parts of animal origin" - and indeed it's the classic little patch with the cute wolf logo that they insist on using real leather for.
I actually went ahead and wrote them an email, asking why they don't just use fake leather or whatever - and they fucking told me that they "don't want their product to fall victim to a throw-away mentality", and thus it has to be leather as leather is durable.
Seriously. -

I hate this with all denim labels. Anybody got any ideas about jeans that dont have that leather name tag on the back?

I saw nudie jeans do it now
Edit: wot he said ^

Behold the field in which i grow my fucks etc. Oliver do you actually read shit like this? Royals family plans for Christmas from Gideons paper? I avoid like the plague... even if the word vegan is in it.
No, I don't follow 'royal' news, but I'm always interested in poor conceptual understanding, like: 'Oh, I'm vegetarian, but I eat fish.' or 'I'm vegan but I cook meat for my family.' That kind of lack of clarity is a key factor in why people consume animal products and needs to be cleared up. I'm afraid I don't even stop at the Royles' in-laws for that. :)
As for the Standard, yes, it's not a good newspaper (and I'm certainly very critical of the way the editor carries on), but it's still the main London newspaper. It's unfortunate but unavoidable that I read it.

Just as an added note, I've had a pair of vegetarian shoes stable boots or whatever they're called (look like DMs) for about ten years and they're still going strong...

I've got a lot of friends who have had those and they generally seem to fall apart after a winter's use! Not great for the money.

Jesus, I bet my feet would absolutely stink after about 30 seconds in these, ha ha
-
• #5713
Mine are onto their second winter and look as new, although it's the second ones I linked to I have, not the first.
-

Thank you for the tip, I am really looking for insulated boots though.
-

Glad they're lasting for you! I have a slightly different pair of boots from them that have lasted a few years so far but have heard bad things about several of their products' longevity.

A nice story and advertising for this Brick Lane restaurant:
http://fatgayvegan.com/2018/12/10/london-restaurant-bookings-skyrocket-with-vegan-menu/
What the article doesn't say too clearly is that this is still an omnivorous restaurant, but one obviously expects cooking for the two menus to be done separately. I still think it's interesting in how it reflects change currently taking place in London.

While looking for the location of the above, I also saw this:

Can anyone recommend me a cookbook? I have completely lost all my mojo for cooking which results in me not eating or eating the same unhealthy but quick stuff over and over again.
The problem is most of the recipes in cookbooks that I look at need take a two hours to cook and need weird ingredients that I struggle to find/afford. I can't reliably find liquid aminos, Job's tears, millet, aduki beans, tamari, radicchio, fennel, cashew butter, etc. in my nearest shop, which is a medium-sized Lidl. I do have a couple of Asian supermarkets down the road though.
So, vegan cookbook with cheap + common ingredients that a typical busy gardenless city-dwelling person has access to, does it exist? I'm guessing it's going to involve a lot of kidney beans and chopped tomatoes...

How about Jack Monroe she's all about cheap, commonly found ingredients: https://cookingonabootstrap.com/category/vegan-recipes/

While visiting, my parents recently cooked us a couple of dishes from 'BOSH!'
They must be very simple recipes if they managed it.

Oh, I heard of her through the political stuff - I had no idea she did recipes. Perfect. And who better to give my money to than someone who uses it to sue Katie Hopkins ;)
If anyone has any further suggestions that would be great, I am keen to try as much as possible to hopefully bring back my enthusiasm for cooking. I recall seeing a big poster in a flow-chart sort of layout once with a bunch of budget tomato/bean based recipes - anyone know what I'm talking about? Stuff that is focused on baking/cakes and Asian food would also be great.
