  • 4 sets of 25 sounds a lot.

  • Is active recovery a thing for running? An easy ride after a hard / long ride is good - is an easy run after a hard run good, or is doing nothing better?

  • As always: it depends.

    But ... Yes an easy jog can help loosen of stiff muscles and promote blood flow without harming, and potentially helping recovery if done properly. Done properly meaning really easy pace, not too long -like no more than half an hour in zone 2.

    ETA: I try to follow the general advice of follow a hard run with an easy run when planning out my runs. Means I can run most days without just feeling wrecked all the time.

  • Thanks. I’m feeling lazy today and riding tomorrow so I’m going with the “no, stay in bed” answer.

  • Yes, easy jogs are good. nice and relaxing, create some headspace and get the blood pumping a bit. Not doing two hard days in a row is pretty solid advice as well. easy running gets your limbs used to it and stronger for the harder sessions.

  • Xc league today, it's so close to home just done lap of local pond in lieu of warm-up jog to the start. Carrying post race cake carefully there to avoid it arriving as crumbs.

  • Burley Moor Summer (?!) Festival Fell Race today.
    6.7 miles, 1200ft. Didn’t have breakfast, smashed a gel in 20 mins before start. Felt a bit groggy and generally without great impetus, the first half went accordingly, got a bit more in my groove after half way and descended reasonably well, held on to a 6.15 pace for the last mile and a half which was a pleasant surprise.
    51/186, a few places short of top 25% but decent enough all things considered. Last run of any effort before Pendle next week.

  • First run (since the marathon in April) scheduled for tomorrow. I’m sure it’ll hurt like hell and make me very stiff afterwards (fnarrr) but I’m strangely looking forward to that. Worst bit will be trying not to look at the pace clock and wonder how I managed to get so much slower but just riding my bike

  • Sounds not fun. Hope you're back on it soon.

  • Xc went well. Knee ok throughout and now.

    Edit. Proven again that I can't do gentle at races though. #fullgas

  • Anything but full pelt always feels like a disappointment at a race.

  • After last time out at the xc today was a little different. Check out statman jon on Twitter for Alex yee winning in a bit of rain. Despite his victory we fell further behind overall.

    Time to prepare for tomorrow's half now.

  • It survived intended, until it was demolished by hungry clubmates after the race.

  • After missing the first round I made a triumphant return to league XC, we had the Cross Challenge and Oxford Uni vs RAF in our race as well as the normal league so it was a fast one. Mahamed Mahamed won it outright and I followed about five minutes later.

    @juanito - don’t know if you were the Kent AC runner topping the results today? Good running, if so.

    I went off in the 2nd wave. Bit of a ball ache being stuck in traffic or tip-toeing along canal edge for first 10k, but then I wasn’t ever intending to race it. Rough plan was to cruise along at 4:20/km pace and enjoy the scenery. Worked out exactly that in the end. Rolled in 17th, 4th in age group. Encouraging to be able to run a relaxed HM considering I couldn’t run 1km without stopping back in autumn 2016 when I first tried running again after 30 years off.

    Equally satisfying was getting 1 of the 3 ‘volunteer of the year’ awards at my home parkrun. Pleasant morning scanning barcodes with my son yesterday while my wife worked the stopwatch. Tailwalking next week, then back chasing times.

  • Xc results out today. 3 mins quicker (as were leaders) 1 place worse! 10 places worse in v40 so stronger turnout I think.

  • can one virus kill another, after all the injections on saturday, my sore throat and cough have almost vanished - hoping to get out for wee 30 min lunch run tomorrow in the mild sunny weather.

  • Hi, yes, that was me. I had a very short warm down and was trying to work out who I thought might be you! I didn't dare shout at anyone though. Sounds like good progress in 2 years. Top work on the parkrun award as well.

    It was a beautiful morning on the canal; I had fun splashing through all of the puddles. Fortunately, I managed to get into the first wave and had a clear run all the way. I did slow slightly but I'll blame a constant slight uphill for that - and then a proper uphill in the final mile.

  • Ran the Bath Hilly Half today...great race, tough. Finished 1:53 which is 5 mins slower than last time. Bad shoe choice...inov8 mudclaw. Too many rocks. My feet are all blood blisters and bruises. Wasn’t expecting much, but found myself in 15th at the half way point, then just slowly fell apart as the blisters took hold. Still sub 2hrs on that course is decent.

  • Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.

  • I am aware that I am not the right shape for running, or climbing, or cycling, or any of the sports I do, lol.

    Edit: I also refuse to go on a diet, despite knowing that I probably should - for the health of my knees if nothing else.
