  • I know right!? Was well chuffed when I spotted them. Seem in good nick, steal for that price too.

  • Mix and match straight and bent back leg will look fine?

  • That was my thought as we've got 4.

@dbr - Bit more expensive than I was after/ than we paid for ours. But right now I'm willing to throw some money at it to placate my other half... who's still pretty pissed about being messed about by the ebay seller.

  • So, I just ordered my first ever piece of non IKEA furniture taking advantage of 15% off at John Lewis and some vouchers from my work. I can only afford one but the intention is to get 6 over time in different colours. Pretty excited and feeling very grown up. Eames DSR

  • Quick question.

I’ve just ordered a new king size bed. First time having more than a double.

Where is good for mattresses that won’t kill the bank? Spring firm is key.

  • Try to avoid tucking your feet under while crossing your ankles. You’ll only do it once.

  • Solid advice! It arrived today and it's pretty damn nice.

  • Spam: I’ve made us a new table, so this one is surplus to requirements:

  • Needing a set of six dining chairs and I'm tempted by Lakeland's DSW knock-off. Am I going to regret this. Does anyone have experience with them?

  • The knock offs all break - usually at the base where the legs join. They snap or thread themselves.

  • @dumps- please buy the originals from Vitra. They are £195 Ex-VAT for the DSR side chair.

If you register with Clippings.com or contact a contract dealer like The Furniture Practice / Co-Existence / Viaduct you will be able to get a discount from list.

  • Noted. Thanks both.

  • Vitra are having a sample sale at Oxo Tower on the 13th.

  • Picked up this Ercol Windsor sideboard relatively cheap from eBay, due to marked top:

Bit of fine wire wool and copious Briwax, and it's looking ok:

  • Fantastic..I tend to use satin osmo oil..much easier and durable finish

  • Ah, interesting; thanks.

Do you think I could use osmo oil over the wax or I'd need to strip it off if I wanted to try it?

  • It looks wonderful as it is. I'd leave it.
The oil is applied and absorbs by the wood leaving a hard wax finish, which will look similar.
I use it on tables and worktop as it natural and non toxic, also quick and easy.
I've used it regularly on wood flooring and it's longevity is impresssive even on high traffic area. Great product.

  • Just picked up this 1978 HM Eames DSS-TA for a mere $20. Still has it's original delivery date label on the bottom which is great. I’m very pleased with it. I'd been looking at yellow Modernica shell's (because I want that original, bad for the environment, totally non-recyclable resin recipe, which HM no longer use) but at this price, it was a no brainer to get this and put another base on. Slight shame about the exposed screws but I’ll get over it. Gonna put a rocking base on it and put it in the living room I think. The yellow is still incredibly bright given it’s age which is great.

  • Why are you changing the legs? $20 is mad!

  • Good buy Jake!

  • Our Zenith manufactured red orange shell is on its original H base. It was made between 1955-1957. I don’t want to change it because it’s totally original. But I want a rocker.

The table serves little use for me to be honest. The table (which does flip up) is also very low and it touches my thigh. Annoying.

I ordered zinc and birch rocker legs yesterday from Modern Conscience who specialise in HM/Eames restoration. Can take three weeks to get here from Seattle but they’re made in Seattle and use 100% FSC wood - which cannot be said for other reproduction bases.

Now that we have space, we’ve gone a bit chair and furniture mad. It helps that there’s just so much good vintage furniture to buy here...

  • Actually grown quite fond of the school desk base... next to a 60/70s Clausen and Søn bookcase we got a few weeks back.

  • @JB Woah, very nice. Leave it as it is. A Zenith shell and original base, well fuck me $$$$$.

Beautiful. My favourite design of the 21st century.

  • That one is HM. This one is Zenith. Paid $125 as there's a small crack in the shell that had been epoxied. You can just about see the three dots and backwards Z.
