@Howard only 20 days behind :)
Ref the Topstone Sora which appears to be so new no ones seen one yet apart from America.
Was talking about this yesterday/last night.
My friend who has ordered one is now debating upscaling to the 105 model and + about £600.
Apart from 105 shifters and hydro brakes, an FSA through-axle chainset and tubeless ready rims and 11spd over 9spd and some other small changes which i am going to look into.....
(hubs, frame, fork, seatpost, bars etc etc are the same)We talked about end use. It won't be doing anything more rad than towpaths and flat roads. My mate is over max user weight limits for pretty much everything he has looked at roadbike wise.
I doubt the wide ratio cassette will see much action. So i reckoned staying Sora and 9spd.
We can swap out the cassette to a 9spd road one (9spd gear being cheaper).
Yes cable brakes need adjusting, but swap out the cable inner/outers and pad change is fairly cheap power upgrade.
If he dosen't get on with drop bars, we can chuck on risers and use the 9spd shifters and Hydro brakes from his current bike.
He wants to change the stock carbon fork.... i argued that Dale expect the bike to be loaded up and chucked around rough trails so offset that against his weight and maxing out on towpaths, i think the fork will be fine.
Tubeless tyres....... for what he's doing the cost of swapping tyres and the faff and if he burps one or splits one, meh, stay as you are and tubed for now.
About a 500g weight saving from the Sora to 105. At the rider weight and need for strong parts that weight saving won't be noticed and light tyres might have a short lifespan.Should have bike late January. may start a thread when he gets it. Asked him to do a ton of research before upping the order to 105 spec (shop haven't tried to upsell and bought last bike there) he has been looking on gravel forums which are dominated by geardos :) and upgrade all the things attitude (bit like here :) )
Sensible thoughts ? -

If he's a big lad I would look for hydraulic brakes; the cable stuff is fine for XC weenies like me but for guys with heft they might be a bit terrifying.
Sounds like someone who will need to enjoy their ride a lot, so maybe don't skimp on the controls, even if 9 speed stuff would be fine.

It's an inbetween bike, hopefully when he drops some weight he can get what he wants so might have it a year or two. It will be used on flat roads and unlikely to get much beyond 18mph.
Hydros would be ace, but it's the £600 price hike to get them.
I will update.... :) -

Ref the Topstone Sora which appears to be so new no ones seen one yet apart from America.
Not abnormal, stock take ages for it to turn up in the UK, expect it to be here by 2019.
retailer often sell it now to make profit and wait for the bike to get in.

Yep had similar with Spesh years ago........ order in then see delivery bumped back months and months. Although it did appear that stock went to Americas first with token shipments to Eurozone until stock available for large shipments.
Not found much chatter yet on Topstones for real world use, loads of pre-release hype and press stuff.

There's a good thread on Weight Weenies about them with some input from a Cannondale rep and a few others who have gotten ahold of them. Appears they are specced for upto 650b x 48mm which is info I couldn't find anywhere else.

Ta croft.
Good read...... only 10 coming into Eurozone to start with... !
And appears the "105" spec version has ultrega shifters, so that would explain the £600 gap between models. -

Only 10?? And I was thinking of ordering the 105 version.

I'm currently pondering having a Cannondale Super X SE as my only bike. Bar the lack of mud guard mounts is this dumb ?

@WimVDD that was the chatter in the weight weenies link, main drop is January, a small amount have come over, demand is high across the pond.
My friends waiting until January 24th for his LBS to get one (Sora spec). Haven't noticed any in stock locally to us.Had similar with spesh years ago. Started as November, then late December, then Jan.....which became March so i bought something else instead

Anyone got experience with loose bottle cage rivets on a CAAD7? Is there any DIY solution to fix them?
Box section classic or modern carbon 🤔
