  • Am undecided about whether to start a 'General' or 'Sustained power' build phase plan today. Any thoughts on either? The main difference is that the sustained power one starts with a 20min FTP test, vs 2x8 for general. I've never done a 20min test before, so that's more virgin territory.

  • I'm really not an expert on this but I wouldn't choose your plan based on the FTP test. You can do whatever FTP test you like (20 min, 2v8 or Ramp test) in place of the suggested workout at the start of the plan.

    AFAIK it's more important to be consistent with the type of FTP test you do. If you did a 2x8 before do that - you'll get a more accurate reflection of your power as you're used to the effort required and can pace yourself better. In the long run though TR are going to encourage people to do the Ramp test as it requires the least pacing and has less training stress.

    tl;dr do the Ramp test instead.

  • Not the first time I've heard this. Will do that and just skip the first workout and use the ramp test FTP for the overall plan.

  • You can assign the ramp test to the training plan once you do it. It can go in place of the 20 or 2x8 test. Keeps it neat and tidy!

  • Even better. How easy is it to do that? Do you get a pop-up?

  • Very easy, go to workouts, click on the scheduled ride and then click assign. You get a choice of un assigned rides.

  • The past couple of non-power metered rides I’ve done - which I’d ordinarily ‘estimate TSS’, seem to have been automatically estimating, with erroneous and humerous results. Doesn’t seem to allow me to adjust it either...

  • I’ve restarted TR after a longish break and it’s brutal. So bloody tired. I’m really hoping it’s just the first month and then things will ease.
