  • Thanks. It looks great. Have you many apps for the watch itself? I haven’t bothered with any but I haven’t actually looked. I mostly use the watch for fitness tracking and as a music remote when I’m out walking.

  • @DragunovCZ1, @haveo, @rogan, (and other iPhone X folks), I know you replied a long whlie ago re: your iPhonw X battery life, are you tempted to have the battery replaced for a lower price before the year is out?

I just looked at my battery life again after updating the iOS and it's dropped 5% since a month ago...

Tempted but mine is still in the 90 range.... so £25 seems a bit of money...

(I know this is a 1st world problem...)

  • I’m at 93% and happy with it.

Manage through all day without charging or a little bit of charge in between.

  • Waiting for new Ipad pro!

  • You and me both buddy.. just had a slightly unexpected tax return so have a couple of quid during a hole in my pocket for either the iPad Pro or Mac mini...

  • wait, i dont understand, why are they replacing batteries?

  • They are not specifically for the X, just the general battery replacement programme for 6 and newer models...

  • Has anybody had a battery replaced under Apple’s discount scheme?

My iPhone 6 is useless ATM but apparently they’re replacing batteries for $29 (or local currency equivalent) until end of December.

Just wondering if they’ll need proof of purchase because mine is second hand.

  • My late 2008 iMac has been sitting in its box for the 18-24 months since I got a pc.

It was working albeit slowly when I put it away but I just recently I made some space in the spare room so got it back out and it wouldn’t start up, just made 3 loud beeps, pause & repeat when I tried to power it up.

Google suggested a problem with the ram (which I’d upgraded to 2x 2gb cards) so I put the original 1gb cards back in and it worked for a couple days but now it gets to the loading screen (grey, Apple logo with progress bar underneath) and when the bar is about 1/3 the way along, it just powers itself down.

    Terminal?

Don’t really want to spend much/anything on it, I only got it back out as there’s space in there for a printer to be set up permanently rather than keptbin the cupboard and brought out as needed as I do now. Thought I could also use it for music and stuff when I’m working on the spare room but I also have a laptop which can serve this purpose so maybe I’m best putting the iMac on eBay as spares/repairs. I think I deleted everything off it when I went over to the pc but I might be signed into google and outlook and stuff on it. Obviously can’t check as I can’t power it up but if someone repairs it...

  • Yep and no proof of purchase needed, took about an hour in total.

  • Maybe booting the iMac into target mode and wipe it's HDD from another Apple is an option?

  • Cleared the nvram and smc?

  • Are there any good free options for cleaning my Mac up? I just want to get rid of any duplicate/unused files and a few dodgy malware type things.
If there's no decent free things, what's a good buy?

  • I have no idea what those are so I'm gonna guess not!

    Will google.

  • You should be able to find duplicate files etc using finder search options. Malware - malwarebytes.

  • I took in an iPhone 6 that I got from a relative for a battery change. No problem at all, they in fact gave me a whole new iPhone 6 because the battery had expanded meaning they couldn’t replace it.

  • New mac mini.

  • Screw the mini, the air and ipad pro is looking good!

  • Mac mini getting ordered... does it have desktop CPU's?!

  • Mini looks fun, Air seems overpriced but can't recall what previous model was priced at. But for a not even max specced one £2k seems a bit rich.

iPad Pro seems a nice update - particularly wireless charging of pencil + usbc etc.

Basically expecting a serious worthwhile (spendy) update to mac pro next year though now rather than something half arsed.

Might get a dozen minis and build a render farm :/

  • £2k seems a bit rich

I think it was in this thread, albeit some years ago, that somebody said
if you think that's a bit rich maybe you're a bit poor

In all seriousness I think it's a shame that apple became a brand that only does luxury items; macs have always been expensive, but all those iDevices (while they are really nice of course) are super expensive, and all the computers are stupid money now as well.
    It's fucking ridiculous.

  • That somebody sounds like a twat.

It's just a mac air - I swear they used to be about 700 quid (albeit base model) but maybe I have rose tinted memory. Thanks Nigel Farage etc.

In other news, what's the thing that looks like a power supply at the back of the new mini? Aren't they powered via USB-C? And if they're powered by USB-C I wonder how much juice they need? Internal battery and I'd be sold.

    Lastly:
    2.9GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz (15" mbp)
    or
    3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz (mini)

  • what's the thing that looks like a power supply

    ..a power supply?

    You know, like

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320#C7/C8_coupler

  • but... but... my usb-c dreams!

  • but... but... there's four usb-c ports right there!
