  • I'm fairly impressed by the viability of that nvidia streaming thing tbf.

Played a few runs through with a terrible connection (so awful resolution) and I still got about 5 kills on 'the game'.

  • Thats pretty good going! I find the res too awful to play, and my connection is fairly decent, but then when I run things locally my settings are pretty high.

Prob should save it for another thread, but I'm about this eve/today if you are (in between house refurb planning).

  • No can do, unfortunately - mrs cyoa has invited some friends over to stay for a few days. Many children. Obviously I'd like nothing more than to encourage them into a careers as twitch streamers but I think I'd be alone in that ambition. So I think I'm out until Weds now apart from sneaky pubgm rounds.

  • May have been around for a while but I've just noticed that when cmd+quitting an app on OSX it's now asking me to hold it down. This is a fucking terrible idea. Is there a way to turn it off?

EDIT: This is apparently a Chrome thing which is even more astonishing that they've now made default on Mac. Idiots.

  • The same here and I think there’s no fix for that yet. Very annoying

  • Is there anywhere in LHR T5 selling iPhones tax free? Dixons just price match online retailers.

  • Right, finally it's time to find a new home for my old but actually still very new iPad 2017

    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/326974/

    Anyone knows anyone? Ta

  • What's a good antivirus all rounder these days?

Had loads of attempts to log in to another yet another email account and an email from experian saying my address and password were being sold online. I've changed password (had actually changed recently) and now added TFA with an app etc. This just after similar things with a different email. Can only assume something has been downloaded at some stage - not sure whether that's into OSX or bootcamp : /

  • I've been offered an iMac gratis. I'm wondering if it's going to handle Adobe stuff (Photoshop, Indesign and After Effects mainly) better than my MacBook pro - i'm desperately trying to hold off on a costly upgrade (especially after being told here about upcoming hardware releases!).

    Current:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
    2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB

    Free mac:
    iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009)
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB

Is the graphic card in the MBP going to outweigh the processor and ram difference?

  • You MacBook Pro will be better by a long shot.
What issues do you have with your current set up? An eGPU could be a good easy upgrade option for you if its GPU intensive work?

  • I’m finding it a little slow in some situations. I do think that might partly be a scratch disc thing though. 120gb is not a lot, especially with all that adobe crap installed on it! I often have to use an external hd as a scratch disc.

What’s an eGPU and where can I catch, kill and skin one?

EDIT - part of the issue is a desk-space thing. Using a laptop and having to plug and unplug a load of screens, tablets, usb stuff etc is a pain and seems to take up all of my desk. i really want to switch to a permanent desk set up, then just use my laptop when i need to do quick work in the house etc.

  • Sounds like you may need to get the rumoured new Mac mini... ha.
2015's are still pretty capable machines though, so if you wanted you could upgrade your internal SSD to a much bigger one and get another few years out of it.

eGPU = external GPU, its a way of pairing up high end desktop graphics cards with laptops, which is great for GPU intensive work such as editing video and playing games (which is what I use mine for). They can be a bit expensive, I do have a spare I am selling, but then its another thing to plug in and I dont think it'll actually be super useful for your use case.

  • Yeah it does look like waiting around for a new mini is my best option at the moment. I did think about upgrading the drive - slightly worried about DIYing and borking my mac, though :-)

Whats the reason the MBP would be so much better than the old iMac? is it literally just the graphics card?

  • Nah, CPU, that Core 2 Duo is super old... pretty sure your laptop's CPU will have more power, 6 years is a long time in computer world.

  • Fair enough - yeah I was kind of not registering just how old it was!
It just turned up so i'll give it a fresh OS install and try out CC on it, see how awful it is. Cheers for the advice!

  • The ability to share a photo to Flickr has vanished from my Mac since I went to Mojave

Possibly something to do with the change in ownership of Flickr?

  • Yahoo had payed for Flickr integration so I’m guessing the new owners didn’t and thus it’s gone.

  • Got my series 4 watch on friday to replace my original.
The Sport Loop strap is incredibly comfortable compared to the Leather Loop and Sport straps i had previously. I hardly notice i'm wearing the new watch as a result.

The larger screen, and significant performance improvements are really something, the new complications are really something, i feel like I've got a completely new level of information available to me at a glance.
Highly recommend it to anyone who is on the fence regarding an upgrade.

  • Maybe I'll wait for the supposed Air redesign or look for a 2016ish Pro second-hand.

any sites other than Fleabay worth looking at for SH MBP's?

    Ta

  • That’s good to know. I’ve a Series 3 and was thinking about a new one. What are the biggest differences?

  • I would like this information as well, need to upgrade the laptops in our house.. and ideally would prefer one that isn’t usb c as #ballache..

  • can't see any Macs coming with USB A from this point on... FWIW I haven't found USB C a ball ache at all, nothing 2 adapters won't fix, although most my peripherals are USB C / TB3 now.

  • Got a couple of usb c MacBook pro’s at work and getting Ethernet in, drives and card readers in is a #ballache, I’d be happy with latest macs before they did away totally usb a??? Would be mostly interwebbing, with the odd bit of serato and photo adjusting, if was fast enough would use it for premiere but depends on whether I was still staff or had gone freelance..

  • Sales spam:

Need to shift my egpu - Sonnet breakaway 350 and RX 570 4B. Looking for £250 for both but open to offers too. This is a natively supported plug and play solution for all 2016+ MacBook Pros. Can be used on older models too with a couple of tweaks.

  • The main thing is that the screen is now larger and has rounded corners. the impression this gives is a significantly larger screen due to how some apps are using the space. I really like how much you can get on this analogue infograph screen in the image below.

Your next meeting is listed between 9 -3 .
The 4 buttons inside the clock can be active to show progress/ live info and the 4 around the outside are active buttons with slightly more information available. My favourite is the coloured scale for low - high temperature, the dark sky app uses this well.

All of the above is great and might work on the older watches, but in the new size i find the buttons are far more accurate and responsive.
