I guess you just can't power a whole computer via USB-C yet.

It’s not a Mac air though, the Mac mini has desktop CPUs, the i7 is an 8600 I believe. Pretty decent. Yes I wish they were less, but, god damn it.

Also wanted this.
Maybe desktops pull too much juice. -

Looks like this is the i5 in them
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-8500+%40+3.00GHz
Uses about 3x as much power as the mobile equivalent (but doesn't seem much more powerful which is strange)

I like it all.

How come the new iPad Pro is 'all screen' and 'the new Liquid Retina display goes from edge to edge', but it clearly isn't and doesn't?

ssssshh

Marketing. But don't rock the boat

I got the based model 11 inch air for about £750, so yes they used to be a fair bit cheaper.
-
• #13437
Taking 20% off the value of the pound probably hasn't helped us there.

Will the new Macbook Air serve me better than my aging pro? How much better? Lots?
Currently running: Early 2011 Pro, 15", Quad Core i& 2.2Ghz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD.
Prospective: New Air, 13", 1.6GHz dual‑core eighth‑generation Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, 8gb RAM, 256GB SSD.

Well not really fair to compare a 11'' to a 13'', but the 13'' base model was €1099,- here in Germany 2015, now it's €1349,- so yeah, they used to be cheaper.

The new one is much more portable as it weighs less and the battery will be much better.
Ssd will be faster.
Connectivity to high Res monitors superior.But.
Processing speed probably a bit slower.
You will need to buy adaptors to use the new ports.
You may hate the new keyboard which has very little travel. -
• #13442
I don't really do any heavy lifting, just general use, so that's probably exactly what I need.

My iPad Pro (first gen, small one) is my fastest, most reliable Apple product. It’s keyboard has recently become somewhat buggy, but given that it doubles as a case and gets shoved in a bag that’s expected.
I’m quite interested in the new, large Pro. If it could replace my MBP for travel that would be great.

• #13446
why not a 13 macbook pro?
-
• #13447
More expensive? Not sure of the benefits if I'm not doing any serious shit.
-
• #13448
Yeah a friend uses an ipad for work most days - I think it would be great for travel etc
-
• #13449
I didn't realise any people actually did this. I've seen hundreds of Surfaces in use at offices, etc but I don't think I've ever seen an Ipad with a keyboard being used for something serious. I can't really see how you could do until they finally start offering mouse/trackpad.

When I'm travelling I'm typically inflicting Powerpoint on people, probably my list of "It needs to do this" would be as follows:
- Outlook Email
- Powerpoint (display and creation)
- Pulse Secure VPN
- Screen sharing
- Excel
- Outlook Email
but... but... do they power it was my question? If so isn't the power supply redundant? Or I guess people just want to make extra use of all the usbc/tb3 ports.
EDIT: They do not power it. The dream is dead.
