True.
Basically, throw your bike in the bin and get a new one with internal hub gears and a belt drive.

Hey @frank9755, could you please remind me of the config you used to get your 40T working?
I've got 36T working with normal chain and long cage Di2 mech, no Wolfie.Presume you need a longer (118 link?) chain for 40T?
What RD do you have? Did you use Wolftooth?I gave up hunting for cranks so I'm thinking of building up a custom ultra cassette with 40 or 42T low gear. I'd like to run it without using Wolfie but that might not be possible?

Bit late to this, but you can always get Sora 9 speed instead, the shifting performance is already way better than the old 5700, providing you're replacing the chain and cassette to 9 speed once it worn out.

Worn chain/cassette can also cause sloppy gear changes.
TBF, the 5700 shifters have a slightly soft feel compare to the 6700 when new, worsen over time due to wear and tear making it felt sloppy despite new cable, chain, cassette and housing.

Forum wisdom - If I got this,
https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-xt-m8050-di2-11-speed-gear-kit-97476.html
and this
What would I be missing from a di2 perspective? (I'd need chainset, cassette and chain but that's easier to manage and I'd be looking to go 1x)

I got distracted for a year.
Last time I was here it was all about the supply chain fuck up with the new Ultegra disc group and Madison blah blah. I assumed that in the intervening year all would be resolved and I could easily buy this stuff.
But now the few places that have 8020 are getting rid on clearance and nowhere has compact / 175mm / 11-30. And you lot are saying 8020 is shit, anyway.
wtf is going on? I just want a mechanical shift hydraulic disc brake groupset so that I can build my Isen a year late. What am I supposed to do?

I'd go with m6000 cassette, ebay bergains m980 shifter and mech, and middleburn cranks. Invest saved money in brakes that work.
I'm fairly happy with my m8000 tho. Except brakes. Those can >>>>> -

for a road bike?

Sorry I'll take my coat and go to bed now. Confused 8020 road with 8020 mtb brakes.
-
• #6811
no worries. It seems to be easier to find the mtb stuff than the 8000 series Ultegra.

• #6812
That looks like about it.

Smashing, the only problem seems to be if you want to run a front mech. Guess just need to find a buyer for a xt di2 shifter

Now thinking of defecting to sram for the Isen build- never used it before but I understand that sram hydro discs are supposed to be good.
to sram or not to sram? and if so, to wifli of not to wifli?
noted that sram red wifli is serious £.

I really love the shape of sram Hydraulic hoods.
As for the rest it's sram it works great.

Shimano quick link, or power link, or whatever they call it. I seam to have partially difficulty one which will not pull apart as it should. I’ve tried the normal stuff, applying pressure from the cracks etc but it will not move. Is there anything else I can try before having to order a tool!
-
• #6818
Pull one side of it over an extra link along over the big chainring so that it kind of sticks out like a little triangle and all the other links wrap as normal, carefully twat the correct part with some kind of twatting device. Tool is a lot better though, especially as I've explained the other way really badly.

enjoying the new shimano rx mech - bike is a lot quieter now with chainslap pretty much eliminated.
-
• #6820
Yeah I think that makes sense, I’ll give it go, thanks
-
• #6821
Update, yeah that worked, well I end up gently twatting it as it was seated over a chain tooth and that help it slot into place nicely.
-
• #6822
Wait, were you trying to close it? In that case just get the link to the top half of the chain between the chainring and cassette and hold the rear wheel and pedal forward.

Anyone made a 6870 GS with wolf tooth road link work on a 11-42 cassette?
-
• #6824
That sounds like something I'm going to do, once I get my bike back. I bought the 11-40 but I don't see why the 42T won't work.
-
• #6825
Yeah what’s an extra two teeth?
I have the cassette already and I’m tight.
Worn chain/cassette can also cause sloppy gear changes.
