I would like (I think) a single speed frame to replace my arkose.
I'm not sure what I want. I'm not sure the arkose is giving me it.
I want a single speed frame I can commute on mudguards please, and rack, no thru axle, disc brakes, probably carbon fork that if I wanted to I could cross on.I've got a strange ticking noise when I sit down and push hard, it feels heavy, I'm not sure I like it.
What else is there?Bombtrack Arise apart from the carbon fork bit. And it has sliding dropouts.
Unfortunately the OTP bikes have crap bits (especially the Kenda tyres and cheapo disc brakes) and the F&F is almost impossible to get hold of, although I managed to from Germany.
Possibly weighs more than an aluminium Arkose though.
Do you think the fact the Arkose is alu is bothering you? It seems a completely illogical material to make a 'gravel' (sic) frame from to me.

I'd put the Sonder camino on the list. having seen them in store I was impressed.

I thought I'd like my arkose as a do it all commuter, rad dad taxi, winter single speed miles get out in the laner type thing.
The material doesn't bother me as I'm an avid collector of aluminium frames.
It just feels a bit "meh". That might be because of the wheels, stock. It might be that it's on 38c hyper voyagers (doubtful). It might be overgeared (likely).
It makes the noise and I'm not sure why. I can't seem to get set up right on it.
I was hoping I'd be able to chuck it around a few muddy cross races this year. But I doubt it.

Can tell you it's not them. Have them on my Orro and my Bombtrack now I like them that much.
Could be geometry? I had the same feeling from the also much vaunted CdF for some reason.
Crap wheels can make a nice bike feel rubbish IME.

Harshest material over bumps. I know you can tune it yadder yadder but give me carbon or steel any day.

Yeah. I've got HVs on this bike, the rad mumbike taxi, and a set of wheels I used on my cross bike over winter. So, pretty confident it's not them....
I think I need to swap some wheels around...

In other news, what are the crank options for Arkose? They have to be quite because of the BB shell?

Any cranks will work, get alfine?

I tried 38c Hypers on my Arkose for one morning (standard wheels), thought they rode like hybrid tyres, dull and slow. Much prefer 38c Paselas.
Had 32c Hypers on a Croix De Fer before and they were ok. Both frames are pretty boring though, and the Arkose has difficulties in going round corners.

Or will standard road cranks on Hollowtech go in ?

@Chalfie, did you look into the octane one kode did you?
I just took mine on a tour (geared) from Zadar-Ancona-Firenze-Tuscany-Venice with the removable gear hanger.
Besides some woes with one bottle cage threading very happy.
Will be built as 650b-47c horizons mudguards n errything fixed for autumn/winter.
Will dig up a photo in a bit. -

Yeah, I had 38c tubeless going into a pitch battle with a mig.
pulled 5 gs going round the corners on layhams. -

tyres transform how a bike rides, never buy cheap tyres (but also never buy compass tyres) .. if you want puncture protection Marathon Supreme

It's not the canyon, and picture is bad.
Haz kinesis carbon fork but the og steel fork is also not halfbad.
Sprayed it anthracite hammerschlag because I hate white. -

Cannot agree with this - how hard did you pump them up?
I run mine tubeless at between 30 and 40 psi and they're great and not at all slow. I've happily done club runs and plenty of decent paced road rides on mine this summer.
Science backs me up on this too:
https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/tour-reviews/vittoria-voyager-hyper-2016Tyres are very personal though. And I should probably try G One Speeds but I'm too tight.

Around 40psi (I'd be around 12st on bike), with inner tubes, definitely slower than Paselas (folding, PT) for me, though a slightly smoother ride. The Paselas have a smaller contact patch, there seemed to be a lot of rubber on the road with Hypers, which may explain some of the tardiness.
