  • Could this be the new Arkose?

Flat or post mount fork with adapter, thru axle front and rear and a couple hundred quid.

    Chain Reaction Link

  • As well as a Pompetamine copy

I've bought an Octane one hardtail and must say the quality looks brilliant

  • These were on bike24 I believe . Have always been tempted with that price , haven’t seen any built up though.

  • thats old news, @Fox already has one.

  • To some maybe. Needs sharing though, looks sick.
    What’s tyre clearance like?

  • Thanks, that's good to know. Which colours did you see?

  • Geometry on the Arkose is more slammable thou...

  • I think the Brother is 531 and Vulture is 531 in the rear but 725 for the majority.

  • Anyone got any experience with the Giant Revolt Advanced 2? https://www.giant-bicycles.com/be/revolt-advanced-2-2019

  • Route 47 Fishguard to Newport. 130 miles with muchos gravel apparently. Fingers crossed 🤞

  • Big day! Good luck and have fun

  • A shop here in Poland has some crazy deals on some Jamis bikes, including 2017 Renegade Exile for around 360 GBP. I am a bit discouraged by the alloy frame / alloy fork combo, but still tempted for it to replace singlespeed Vitus Dee as my daily all-weather commuter. Do you think I will feel the full-alloy frameset in terms of comfort? Right now Vitus (steel fork with alloy frame) feels noticeably less comfortable than Pickenflick.

  • Well, aluminium is the least forgiving material used to make bike frames, full alloy fork won’t help either. If the bike is fairly cheap you could spend extra cash on carbon fork, seatpost and perhaps handlebar - this would help lessen some of Aluminium harshness.

I think @ElGato was after a Renegate so perhaps he could give some further insight or you could help each other.

  • I’m pretty sure a small drop I tire pressure on 40mm tires can suck up any additional vibrations that carbon would have caught.
So there is no aluminum harshness on tires that big.

  • I have one of those, there's a pic in the Pompino thread.Pretty happy with it.

  • carbon seatpost

    Don’t believe the hype.

  • I've stuck my stock wheels back on the sequoia and put some 2.0 tyres on..... not ridden it yet, the clearances are non-existent, but it looks cool!!

  • like that a lot!

  • As @Pawlus said I was looking at the Renegade, but the Escapade, Reynolds 631 with carbon forks though.
I am not sure how a full alloy frameset might feel but as @Simba suggested, you could get wider tyres providing there is room left on forks and chain stays ( I think the Exile comes with 700x36) and lower the pressure or even get a 27.5 wheelset and fit even wider tyres.

  • I only have a short google session to trust but Evans states clearance for 40mm.
631 with carbon sounds nice though. What’s the price difference?

  • Went away for the weekend with my wife to do some cycling about Kent. I picked this up used on friday, and aside from the rear tyre not holding pressure (leaking from spokes) and needing pumping everyday it was great

  • Cheers fella!
I think because it's a 58, it looks more in proportion with the bigger wheels.....it rides so nicely with the 650b horizons though! We'll see.....

  • Well, £500 for frame (through axle front and rear), fork (eyelet for mudguards and cage) and headset.
But they only have in size 51 left, everything else is sold out and it seems that Evans is the only one selling framesets so they might have managed to get a bunch of them and that's it apparently.

  • I would like (I think) a single speed frame to replace my arkose.

I'm not sure what I want. I'm not sure the arkose is giving me it.
I want a single speed frame I can commute on mudguards please, and rack, no thru axle, disc brakes, probably carbon fork that if I wanted to I could cross on.

I've got a strange ticking noise when I sit down and push hard, it feels heavy, I'm not sure I like it.
    What else is there?
