  • After I posted that I noticed the other versions.

  • My son knocked his 2 day old xaiomi mi A1 off the arm of the sofa and onto the wood floor. Screen cracked.

I am disappoint (on his behalf).

Few hours later the plastic case I'd ordered dropped through the letterbox.

    It's all about timing.

  • Is there a recommended source for the Xiaomi Mi A1? Eglobal central UK seems cheapest but they don't have the best reviews...

  • I've used eglobal a couple of times with no issues.

If you get an mi A1, don't drop it...

  • If you get an mi A1, don't drop it...

Haha, echoing that... are you going to attempt a repair?

    @cagimaha I got mine from GeekBuying.com

  • Thanks for the feedback. It's for the girlfriend but I'll pass the message on!

  • Perhaps. The cracks are not show stoppers so leaving as is for the time being.

If it gets worse, new glass is £2o on eBay or AliExpress.

  • Quick phone q. Need to replace mine which has just given up the ghost, was going to scroll back through this thread and look and what budgetish options are recommended, but first wanted to ask whether there is any reason why an android phone bought over here wouldn't work in Aus/NZ as well as over here? I have a vague memory years ago of certain phones not working in the US etc and as my knowledge is very limited thought I'd better ask the question. Thanks.

  • Think it depends on the bands.

Got my Moto G6 refurb, looks as brand new and feels really nice in the hand. For £135 I can't fault it.

  • Like going on holiday or getting a new sim?

My Samsung G3 came over with me from NZ and i just got a Vodafone sim card for it as i was with Vodafone back home (but bought the phone outright originally so shouldn't have been locked to a net work.) then swapped to three then to someone else cos three were shit cunts and worse than vodafone.

  • Good site for using a phone abroad checking https://willmyphonework.net/

  • New sim.

Looking at the Moto G5 as that seems to get the best reviews at a reasonable price so will use my current Three sim here for a bit then chuck new ones in when abroad.

  • Mi A1 £125. (code in bottom left)

6% cashback at TopCashback too if you can be bothered

Tempted to buy a second one at that price

  • As long as that's still there when I get to a computer this evening think that's a decision made.

  • With regards to Google RMA they've sent me an email saying I can track something "on B2C" but I have no idea what this is. There's no link, just a code to paste somewhere.

  • It was UK Mail. Guess their B2C was just being used when they hadn't yet assigned a carrier or something as they updated saying it was UKM in an email.

Replacement phone just arrived after 2 weeks of dumb-phone without predictive text hell.

Really astonishing how much you take for granted. Looks shiny and new which is nice given the state mine was in. End of my contract soon so will upgrade and have a nearly new Pixel if anyone is game.

  • Pie out for Pixels. Seems ok.

  • yeah ok so far. like the new gesture thing

  • Any recommendations for an app with more incremental volume controls. One of my bluetooth speakers doesn't seem to have a setting between quite loud and really quiet.

There appear to be loads on the Play Store but it strikes me as the kind of thing where you end up testing out 10 shit apps, all of which request permissions for everything and continually try and get you to sign up to the paid version.

  • It might not quite be what you are looking for but I just downloaded 'volume up' which basically boosts the volume. I was finding it hard to hear some podcasts at full volume. If you want to just use it for finer tuning you can just put the boost on half and then it should give you a larger range of volume with your normal control.

It does have an advert when you open it but it's pretty easy to click through and after that it's pretty unintrusive

  • Good find. I googled that code and found a bunch more. Updated daily apparently:

  • I use Precise Volume by Phascinate.

It has cool things like a preset volume when you connect to a named Bluetooth device.

  • Cheers, that seems to do the job. Bit annoying that it only works when you're on the app, not clear if the paid version fixes it.

  • So this has been minorly bugging me, does anyone know what the icon is in between the bluetooth and vibrate on the notification bar?
