  • having done it myself it's quite time consuming so going with the FRRT numbers I think is best.

  • all yours for the next one ;)

  • Think @WornCleat volunteered ;o)

  • Very tough call, but it sounds like a wise one. Chapeau, cracking ride.

  • @7ven - 177 - absolute fucking hero. simple as.

  • Fantastic ride, @7ven !

  • Uh oh - Looks like Stephane has had to go back

  • @7ven sorry to hear you’ve scratched, but you’ve achieved more than most. Congratulations on making it this far and be proud!

  • Enjoy the rest - you've given it your best shot and earned a break!

  • I’m sure it’s hard to feel positive right now, but you’ve done absolutely brilliantly. I for one am in awe of your achievements.

  • @7ven good effort fella! I think everyone on this thread who isn't racing, is envious of the fact you were competing! When Alls said and done, medical issues can't always be ignored or beaten......come back next year stronger!

  • 148 has made it through to the other side for the mountain but it posed a significant loss of time/ground as compared to 146 he was trailing by only 20 mins yesterday. Meanwhile, 195 and 68 made a good push through the night. 12 has definitely taken a wrong road...

  • Uh oh - Look's like Stephane has had to go back

Yes, he was crazy to leave the main road.
Leaves it open for Rene to grab third.

Stephane is a really aggressive rider and takes a few risks but, and this part of the attraction of following him, they don't all come off!

  • and thanks as ever for this most useful update dude.

  • It is indeed beautiful. Massive props for the effort and achievement this far. Sounded mentally and physically brutal. Time to recover.

  • Just over 100 miles left for Skinny now

Skinny won't now beat Kristof's 2016 time but that's no big deal. He should still be quicker than he did it last year. Can't compare the courses too closely and weather was much cooler in 2016. Brilliant ride. He had problems with shredded tyres, etc, and he had to go up hills in the baking sun like everyone else, but it hasn't knocked him off his stride in the slightest.

  • @7ven well done mate, it has been inspirational seeing your journey from initial thoughts to actually riding this thing. I've learnt a lot from following you so can only guess at how much you have learnt, experienced, changed and grown.

    Chapeau Chapeau!

  • Agreed a very impressive ride , its a shame that it is unlikely that a head to head between James and Kristof will happen.

  • @frank9755, it's really hard to compare across years I suppose. James makes it look effortless. He'd probably be even faster with Kristof as competition. Shame Lael and Kristof were there at the start then went off to do other racing.

@cybernck find it surprising that you said "don't go down that road, another rider just had to turn back" and 148 still went down it.

  • it is unlikely that a head to head between James and Kristof will happen.

    I wouldn't count on that.

  • The deeper you are into the race a routing error should make less difference in terms of time. (Which isn't to say it'll fuck your head up less.)

    Early on:
20kph on tarmac vs 5kph walking
45 mins lost per 5km of goat track if both are the same length
30 mins lost per 5km of goat track if the goat track is half the distance of the road route

    Later:
15kph climbing on tarmac vs 5kph walking
40 mins lost per 5km of goat track if both are the same length
20 mins lost per 5km of goat track if the goat track is half the distance of the road route

  • Just like to put a shout out for a friend in cap 212. Currently well in the top 20.
    Huge achievement.

  • While you must be devastatingly disappointed just now, you should also be immensly proud of what you have achieved. You have literally pushed yourself to the limit and across a massive distance, up and down mountains and through the Alps. You have also taken a very brave and sensible decision.

I hope that we will be following your dot again next year. Remember that skinny had exactly the same issues, worked with a physio (Blue Rip on here) and came back stronger.

  • Hope you are right , what do you know ?

I thought KA was moving away from this type of racing after Mikes death.

  • Skinny 20 mins or so away from the Greek border...
