  • I know, was it a 5 day finish (or 4?) he was hoping to beat last year?

Regardless of the competition he still has himself to beat.

  • With skinny’s militant sleeping pattern though, if all goes to plan will there be the opportunity?

  • True, looking at Bjorn's pattern it kinda looks like he just might be cracking. Skinny's super consistent. On the other hand the big sleep might do Bjorn good?

  • how's it going @hippy ?

  • I was enjoying the punny name of Wankerhof, but someone else ruined it by showing you had stayed at Wellcum.

You're doing good hippy, keep going.

  • Looks like skinny is 275km in front of Björn and had maybe 4 hours of rest whereas Björn had something like 7.
275km is quite a lot of cycling.

  • Fluid around ankle
    Austria Lumpier then I recall

  • Bjorn did 370k on both day 3 and day 4 so a 275k lead is substantial.

Provided he has no mechanical or injury problems skinny looks hard to beat from here.

  • Bjorn had longer - something like 11 hours.
It appears that he was just exhausted and needed a good rest. Shortly after stopping he had lost the lead so maybe he didn't have the motivation to have an early start knowing there was nothing he could do against the skinny machine!

It does look like it is following last year's pattern very closly now. Expect Skinny to chase hard, probably aiming to beat his 2017 time while Bjorn will probably fade, in relative terms, to come in second, but maybe a day behind Skinny.

  • Forumengers positions:
    Cap#1: skinny 1st
    Cap#253 b: rj 11th
    Cap#46: Jürgen Knupe + 14th
    Cap#142: hippy 26th
    Cap#62: gregory 27th
    Cap#147: DiscoPotato 52nd
    Cap#90: MisterTomTom 54th
    Cap#21: Anisa Aubin + 82nd
    Cap#177: 7ven 83rd
    Cap#219: Paul Alderson + 94th
    Cap#60: Alan Parkinson + 135th
    Cap#208: PBoynton 191st
    Cap #34: Roger Seaton (Brompton) + 216th

    [+] = non-forum rider, but of interest.

  • Bjorn had an 11 hour stop.

Scrolling back I see tracker points for him that were 2h57m ago and then the next one back is 14h10m ago, so that gives a 11h13m stop.

(Times are relative to when I looked at his tracking page.)

Skinny's recent stop was from 6h22m ago to 34m ago, so 5h48m.

@skinny just being gifted the lead by Björn getting lost.

I don't think Bjorn get lost. frrt applies google maps guesswork of the route taken based on the trackpoints and makes it look like he went down and back some odd roads between Lukavice and Bitovany but he didn't. The trackpoints are fine (based on the distances/speeds between them) but google maps obviously didn't think there's a valid route between two of them so it backtracked its pink lines, used a different road and then did another backtrack to cover the next trackpoint.

  • There's a big possibility Skinny and Bjorn will pass each other in opposing directions fairly soon.

  • That would be really cool and probably be a huge morale boost to skinny.

  • Given the roads between them and their intended destinations it's quite unlikely now.

Bjorn shouldn't stop pushing, anything can happen in these races.

  • many thanks for this dude. v helpful.

the only other I have half an eye is Knupe Cap #46 willing him on after the problems that beset his start.

massive chapeau to the forumengers out there -putting in an amazing turn all of them

  • Can you add #60 Alan Parkinson to the 'Of interest' list.

He's a local Audaxer who's done HT550 amongst other things.

    Ta very much!

  • update from 2 of my pals

Innes Ogilvie #231 is still struggling with his knee. After being in the top30/40 riders for the first few days his knew blew up. He toyed with scratching but had a mammoth rest instead and is battling on, albeit much more slowly. For anyone interested, I think Innes, at 22, must be one of the youngest riders this year.

Michael Serafin #215 was going well and was solidly mid/upper pack but then didn't really ride for about 36 hours after contracting food poisoning. He's now moving, slowly again and will see how things are going.

  • excellent update dude. massive props to both of them for digging in and hopefully overcoming those hard setbacks.

  • Can you add #60 Alan Parkinson to the 'Of interest' list.

If you do that, could you add Paul Alderson #219 as well? He is in the same club as Parky and I've often met them on audaxes.

I'd expected them both to be a bit higher up - maybe they are struggling with the heat

  • yeah, I often think these stories are just as exciting as the battle for the lead!

  • I remember Bjorn had to have a long stop in 2016 - he rested for about a day - because he had some medical issues, can't remember what. Maybe it is similar again

  • Just shows what a tough race this is Alan's done it all in Audax.

  • They won't be passing each other, bit of a shame really.

  • just seen #87 post this

I came to the exact place last year and decided to turn around and reroute on the road. Didn't fancy this at all, haha.
