Yeah last year usually when I stopped, I drank a 1,5l bottle of something easily, then maybe a smaller bottle of something else, and filled my three bottles to have them empty again every three hours or so. And ate salty things when available.

I don't know how you guys got through that last year.
In 2016 I only had one really hot day, in Greece. It probably wasn't more than 40, maybe 38, but was really unpleasant. Cold water in my bottles warmed up after half an hour riding. I rode all night to finish even though I was knackered because I dreaded riding another day in that heat. -

Big storm kicking off in Bovec. Good luck to anyone approaching CP2. Mangart will be wild tonight

Yes. 3l if I remember correctly.

What have I missed?

Bjorn being closely shadowed by James at the front, Bernd Paul and Stephane further back, hippy at medium/mild tweet-moan level: The calm before the storm.

I'm one of those dots. They just can't seem to get my account working. Got a new tracker at cp1, nothing. Resetted a few times, nope. I have no idea whose fault it is.
I keep racing though. Feeling good and placed 40th-ish right now. Now a short bivvy and cp2 tomorrow. -

Wondered if it was something like that. Have a top day, you're doing great.

Those switchbacks are savage on the cp1 parcours. Nothing more than 10% at a guess but they just keep coming. Proper Porn worthy road

Really annoying for you. It happened to one of the guys I was dot watching last year. Just no data.
Surprising that another tracker didn't fix it. In that case it's probably an issue on track leaders. They may get it back, with luck -

Interesting at the front as James and bjorn are now doing different routes.
From here to the next cp there are lots of options on back roads through czech rep so scope to save, or lose, time. I looked at lots of variations for this section. Not compared their routes to my one yet, but Bjorns looks a bit more direct. -

Seems skinny had about an hour extra rest again. Will be really interesting if/how much he pulls back on Bjorn today.

I don't understand how they not just give me a new tracker and new 'account'. They take 2 days to contact TL to get a new tracker connecting to my name. And TL is apparently slow as hell. And the connecting doesn't work or something, I dunno.
The tracking is such a fundamental part of the race.Don't want to sound ungrateful but lack of sleep and complaining friends and family don't help...

Curious to know how Mrs Hippy is taking this news...

She’s probably relieved not to hear him complaining about his gooch.

Rooms that can be rented by the hour seem like a good thing for these racers.
re water - pretty sure the dude was using electrolyte/rehydration tabs and the 11l was over the course of a day.
WHen i was in northern italy on last years race I was drinking an incredible amount yet still felt thirsty - every surface of my body was constantly wet, I must have been losing a lot of moisture. Pretty grim stuff.
