I'm hatching plans to do a ride from Dusseldorf down to Basel with wife and son either next summer or the year after...

and I was totally won over by Basel, mostly after seeing people swimming to work in the river. Obviously its Switzerland so inordinately expensive but yeah, incredible part of the world.

Kinesis took a photo of each of the riders at the start line so this is a nice way of putting a face (and a bike) to some of the dots you may be watching.

Not sure that's absolutely everyone, but a great gallery.
Props to one of this pair whose running downtube shifters!

Looks like an exage 300 group or similar. Possibly something like a Giant Speeder Lite - but the paint doesn't look right.

If you ride to Basel, it's worth the extra journey on to the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. It's the biggest waterfall (by volume?) in Europe and it is a ferocious spectacle. There is a great youth hostel on the cliff right next to it.

Skinny doing his thing and being consistent. Hes a couple of 2km's quicker than Bernd / Bjorn as well. Only about 50km between them. Good battle with Stephane atm.

That looks like a great ride! I didn't do anything as long, but was carrying camping gear, panniers, heavy bike, etc. Did a week tour with my wife (rules are I carry the luggage and < 100km per day!) starting in Stuttgart then over to Freiberg, then back across to the Titisee, over the Feldberg and down to Basel.
It was all very pretty. I liked the northern half as was almost deserted. Southern half more touristy. Great cycling country - would love to go back and do more of it, preferably on a faster bike.
They put their tents much closer than we do! #6metrerule
