At this rate I’m just going to get a torch and fucking build my own
-
• #11803
They are quite old and conservative frames.
-
• #11804
Boring.
Will still keep an eye out for a large trail frame. But beginning to take back not wanting steel... -
• #11805
You shoulda bought that £50 29er frame you posted the other day
-
• #11806
Probably. Don’t like the frames with the little top tube seat tube brace thing though

There are a few ultra-budget frames on CRC for ~£200

(there are more, I just posted a selection)
Could get you up and running for a few months/a year then you can swap the frame for something better down the line when you know what you want. The only problem is they look to be mostly post-mount but MTB brakes are cheap and there are flat to post adaptors (I think?) if you switch to a flat-mount frame. Aside from that everything looks pretty standard so I would think you wouldn't have much trouble swapping nearly every part over to a new frame*. Just pick the wheelsize and fork travel that you want to stick with now.
* could get some wheels with replaceable end caps and you'd be fine for 135mm QR and 12 x 142mm. Maybe go for 27.5" wheelsize, then you can use them with your Arkose with narrower tyres if you feel like it.
Is this a stupid idea? Someone tell me.

Mtb doesn't use flat mount
-
• #11809
My habit frame disagrees :)
-
• #11810
That explains a lot. I'm out of date on MTB, for some reason I feel no need to upgrade what I've got, so I don't pay any attention to the new stuff coming out.

Damn. Tempting

• #11812
Mmm the 130mm 29er looks like a fun bike.
-
• #11813
140mm slacker 650b tho?

You can get 10% British Cycling discount too if you're a member or get a member to order it off and their account. I think

But what about this
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/octane-one-prone-27-5-frame-2018/rp-prod155476
The 29-er is more “pedal-friendly” all-rounder, although designed to the modern standards – long front, short rear and slack angles. A smaller wheel Prone is a frame for more aggressive riders – the angles are even more slack and we recommend to use it with a longer travel fork.

27.5 is more chuckable innit
-
• #11818
The red one pictured above is the 27.5 I believe.
-
• #11819
My thinking exactly
-
• #11820
There won’t be any 27.5 bikes in three years time.
Possibly exceptions for small sizes.
-
• #11821
yeah but I still prefer my 29er lol
-
• #11822
Howard you’re making me sad. And realistically I don’t care too much about where the market goes in 3 years. I’ve got space for bikes at the moment but next year when I move house I probably won’t so this might only live for one.
I hate to say it but the 27.5 really does look more chuckable.
I’m undecided. I need a vote -

Howard: 29er 130mm Pikes
-
• #11824
Pikes as in Rockshox?
Can I find a fork that doesn’t cost more than the frame? -
• #11825
I've seen more good deals on 27.5 sus forks than 29er ones recently.
Really? Thought it might be a bit of a bargain. Carbon hardtail swag. Shame.
I wondered whether the a-c of the lefty is the same as for an equal travel double arm fork. I’d want more than the 70 or so mm travel it came with
