  • ahh there were definitely signs last time but it's a big course to signpost i guess

  • South Yorkshire Orienteers have been running a series of local/schools events, courses range from 1-5km I think. Landslide Jr and I have run loads of them, they've been great fun. Might be something similar in your area?

  • I've got in touch with SLOW i'll see what happens!

  • 34:51 for an 18 second PB round Vic Park tonight, and considering I felt pretty rubbish I'm quite encouraged.

  • Ace, nice one.

  • Sizzler #2 this eve. Paced it better but my splits are all over the place on watch & strava (latter due to delay from starting it to race start then similar at finish).

    Watch
    1) 3.30
    2) 3.26
    3) 3.33
    4) 3.19
    5) 3.23

Gun PB of 17.10 (last yr 17.11) but chip 2s outside. 12s up on 2 weeks ago, 16 places better but still 10th v40, tough group. Still a way outside the elusive 16.59 but Wava has hit 80 which is nice.

Hr ave 182 max 193, similar to #4 last year where prev best time was hit.

Empirical evidence to say that Nike Vaporfly shoes do actually make you run faster.

  • Amazing, well done.
I told my girlfriend the times (she's doing her 2nd parkrun this week) and she just said "what's wrong with him?"

  • Cheers, it's a question I ask of the 15.xx v40's, humbling watching them do their thing!

Hope you gf enjoys parkrun. One of our club coaches is having a leaving PR at Longford Park tomorrow. I'd like to get along to it as a social leg loosener.

  • Interesting. Rough maths means they should be worth 40s to me over 5km. That theory I'd like to test, but not at $250.

Nice to see both Asics DS racer & trainer score quite well in the comparison table. #fanboy

  • I think you'd fall into the 2% gainz (fastest runners) so maybe 20s but that's still pretty amazing. People reported a loss in performance after just 100miles though which makes them even more expensive!
However that Alpkit bag looks good value at £45

  • 100 miles out of a pair of shoes is not many races when you factor in some training runs in them to bed in and get used to them as well!

  • If only racing 5km (3miles) that's still quite a few races!

  • I'd take 2%, but not even at half that price :)

  • Gun PB of 17.10

    Fantastic, well done!

  • Top racing!

I don't think the Vaporfly are for me, at any price. I tried on a mate's pair and they just felt really weird. I'm guessing the "propelling you forward" idea might not work as well if you're a heel-striker? Just felt really clumpy and awkward.

Oh, I've just gone and entered the Frankfurt Marathon, end of October. I'd best get the mileage back up!

  • 2nd attempt today. felt a lot better. Mrs OWK did it too.

incidentally I ran in a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus 12, whereas last week was wearing my Nike Huaraches. Definitely a better experience. can't wait to see if I was faster

    running still sucks though :)

  • Glad it felt better this week. Still too hot though. Mrs Fix tried her first one after a month off with piriformis woes. Alas, still unable to finish, but encouraging. Fix Jnr was hoping to improve on his PB from Hove last week. Not got the legs this time, but I’m really impressed with his consistency and happy it’s a pleasure for him rather than a chore.

I’m chuffed with my first sub-18. Haven’t had official confirmation yet, but watch says about 30s off previous best. Wondering if I’ve made the 80% club…

See you there soon. Don’t forget it’s cancelled next week.

Congrats to @5awyr and @rhb on the PBs.

  • Cheers, might head to Finsbury Park or another one. I improved quite a bit so happy with that...
Really want to commit to this once a week! Sub 18 seems Impressive . As does sub 25 tbf, in that heat...!!!

  • Yes! 17:47
    Nooooooo! 79.76%

    Soon…

  • Oof! Nicely done. And snap! 17:47 for me at Avery Hill parkrun this morning.

In case anyone is vegging out on the sofa like I am, flicking between sports on the telly, my club mate Alex Yee is running one of his highest-profile races to date, the 5,000m at the Diamond League Anniversary Games, due to start at 3:05pm. Diamond League. Not a bad standard for a 20 year old triathlete. ;-) Go on Alex!

  • Yes, vegging out also now. Will definitely watch that, thanks.

  • Nice work all ^

I ran 'easier' on feel at parkrun. Effort via HR matches Thurs night says Strava... oops. Felt much gentler though & was surprised to hit 17.37 today as a result.

Missed the DL, will try catchup later. Good luck with Frankfurt prep @PhilPub.

Looking ahead I'm not sure my training mojo stretches to a Nov 24hr race so i'm weighing up my options around my EfM entry...
