The A5 is 4 years old - what version Android is on it?
"Android 4.4.4 (KitKat), 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), planned upgrade to 7.0 (Nougat)"
-
• #19853
I'm reading A5 has "Non-removable Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery" which is less than XCover.
-

Are there 2 versions of a5?

There's about 4 versions. 2016, 2017, a dual sim and something else. Perhaps I was looking at older model stats.

Yeah must've looked at the old A5
This is better: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a5_(2017)-8494.php
Compare:
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8494&idPhone2=8577Looks pretty good, although even bigger than the XCover and the CPU might chew some power too so it's gonna need the bigger battery.
-
• #19857
Yeah tough call on which to get.
-
• #19858
I'd get a smaller version of the A5 if possible.
-
• #19859
A3 2017 maybe ? Smaller than the A5, ip68 and a big battery. It holds better than my moto g 2015.
-
• #19860
Battery on the A3 - which looks good - is only 2350 mah though.
To be fair I just checked dimensions of my 6s and the a5 is only 2 mm bigger, so that’s ok for me.

Stick an offer in on that?
Considering my luck with phones the last couple of years (3 smashed screens, 1 dropped in the sink, 1 in the pool, 1 in a bootloop) my next phone is going to be something rugged as hell
-
• #19862
I'd rather chew my own dick off than order another phone from ebay.
Fuck there's some dumb people out there.
-
• #19863
Why aren't there photos of the phone?
-
• #19864
Screen on A3 is smaller and with fewer pixels which will mean the battery has less to drive than the A5.
-
• #19865
No idea, maybe if it's new they didn't want to open the box?
-
• #19866
Cheaper on amazon at £170.
-
• #19867
True but it’s quite a lot smaller. Anyway, a5 isn’t too big.
Just need to decide if I want the better a5 or supposedly tough xcover4.
-
• #19868
That, the lack of photos, the questionable warranty, etc., all translate into lower offers :)
Pretty much universally a new thing that costs £170 is worth like <£100 second hand right? if the seller's not an idiot they'll let it go for £100. Given that they didn't check Amazon prices maybe they are an idiot though.
-
• #19869
Yeah I’d offer 100 tops.
But sod that, not worth the 70 saving!
-
• #19871
No
-
• #19872
Seals the seals then. A5.
Await a post that I’ve smashed my 2 day old a5.
-
• #19873
Is there a decent option to remove or at least freeze shitty vendor apps on a non-rooted phone. Titanium backup used to be my go to but phone needs to be rooted.
-
• #19874
Non-rooted you can disable them in Settings > Apps
-
• #19875
Only if they're installed as user apps and not system apps.
£170 for the xcover.
£214 for the a5.
a5 is better but xcover probably more robust.
