That could happen in theory but I'm not aware of it actually having happened last year. TBH I wasn't aware of any roads that were banned but which had looked ok on streetview. I accept there could have been some but I don't think there were many.
Knowing your perfectionist / honest approach, I looked at your routing to identify that another rider had infringed - where you had to do a back-road detour to avoid a short-ish stretch of banned road. In that example, there was a sign on streetview.

the World Cup has been a bit of a blast. and the Tour has started and that is good too.
but nothing beats the TCR for overall excitement. is awesome to see some of the regulars - @hippy, @skinny take to the start line but awesome to know some others are in the mix @7ven, @DiscoPotato. am sure others too.
massive props to you all for gearing up for this mad caper.

Had a quick look back in the thread, don't know if there are any more:

I'll be dot watching excitedly as ever. I fondly remember following hippy's "fuck the Alps" mission, instead choosing the flatter route to the south. And of course Skinny's heroic recovery! What year was all that?

In 1868. I loved it when they were still all riding Ordinaries, but I suppose progress has to happen sometimes.

Fresh set of 25mm GP4000 sii's arrived this morning. I was initially thinking of taking one of the better used tyres off the bike as a spare but the amount of stuff I'm taking seems to be growing by the day. Do any of you fine people bother?

2 new 28mm GP4000 S II reflective and a 3rd one taped to frame.

You’re riding across an entire continent on 25c?
-
• #987
I've got 28mm gp4000s but on the rims they measure almost 32mm which I thought seemed excessively big!
-
• #988
I've never taken a spare tyre but needed to buy one on both TCR and Indypac.
I still wouldn't take one as bulky and have always been able to patch up and ride on -

Tried and well tested.

what rims?
-
• #991
Well yeah, for the last couple of decades but I'd give up a few kmh or watts for extra comfort. You've only got to look at Hippo's gooch to see what this ride can do to your under-carriage as it is.

Looks like some of the rider profiles are up. Many written in the third person.
Don't think they liked my attempt at comedy as I didn't make the cut :) -

how did I not know they made them with a reflective band, that's great!

I also found out only a few months ago :)

Yeah thanks a lot! Just called the bike shop and told them to order some. Really good.
Also I think my tyres come up 32mm, you'll want all the girth you can get on the gravel.

• #998
Is that 28's on HED Belgium?
-
• #999
yeah

What's the correct way to measure them? I'm guessing the diameter perpendicular to the spokes.
I've put some 32mm tires on and they'resome real fatties.
Wrong. If someone else uses the same road, sees it's banned and routes around the ban, it's very easy for them to check if anyone else took the banned road and report it to the dot watchers.
Don't take banned roads.
