I settled for eyeballing the guy and shaking my head. I gotta keep my standards. Can't let an Audi drag me down...

No ironic slow hand clap? Pity.

Gotta start incorporating this into my repertoire

Jeez mate, I really felt for you just then. That's awful just read this. As others have said that's too longer list for someone so young. Sending my best.

Thanks man. I should do an update, but was going to leave it until tomorrow now.
Anyway they surprised us with news that they could let her come home today, a day early. So I drove up to see her. She’s looking a lot better but completely different to how she was before. Her eyes are completely red, not just bloodshot pink. She’s in high spirits, can’t do anything physical for quite a while due to the skull fractures and the loss of eyesight has been traced back to the optical nerve at the base of her skull which has been damaged by the fracture so it pains me to say that she will now have permanent blindness in her right eye.
However, undeterred, she wants a new helmet and bike and to get out with her friends. Still amazes me. -

What a fucking boss.

A cheesey grin and ironic thumbs up is a workable alternative.

It's great to hear she's in high spirits, terrible though her injuries are--she'll probably need every bit of positive attitude she can get. I'm sure there will be a comedown at some point, so be prepared for that.
On a cheerier note, I've known a couple of people with damaged optical nerves (one even had his partially severed deliberately in a completely misguided operation--don't ask, I still don't understand why they thought it was a good idea) and they report that their conditions are often very variable--the damage never quite goes away but they have episodes of sight and episodes of whole or partial blindness, and, as one of them always stressed, completely contrary to the doctors' prognoses. It may not be permanent, but obviously I don't have any understanding of her condition and the prognosis may well be accurate in her case for all I know.
Her temporary or permanent loss of stereometric vision may obviously have an effect on her cycling.
Continued heartfelt good wishes for her recovery.

Got to get ahead, got to get aheeeeeeeeeeeead, got to get ahead, go to get aheeeeeeeeeeeeead.
I sing this to myself when I see that kind of driving. True story.

I've only got one good eye and it's never really affected me, obviously this is a different situation, but meant as a positive thing. Poor vision in one eye isn't much of a disadvantage for the vast majority of day to day stuff.

Yeah I have a somewhat duff right eye from an incident that happened when I was a kid.
I suck at ball games but Im fine cycling.

Probably most relevant thread for this? Earlier saw a motorist hit another by failing to give way at speed, flipped her (the speeding one) car. Helped empty the cars and check all ok. All 3 walking & talking miraculously.
1/2s later driver of non fault car would've taken impact on door.
5s later it'd have been my driver door she'd have hit, partner & daughter with me in car & shaken up.
Statement given on scene, unlikely to hear more as so clear cut on fault & cause i guess.
This spot is one of Boardmans Beelines. Any cyclist there at this time would've had no chance at all.

Ah, because of the shitty faded markings and Darley being the major road the rest of the way along its length?

the shitty faded markings that have been tarmacced over
Ftfy. It was sketchy before, lethal now.
-
• #8322
Hopefully they'll be doing the markings again soon then if it's been resurfaced, or is it just a bit of a patch up job?

Saw a guy get wiped out by an idiot on a scooter left hooking him along Kentish Town Road tonight. Stopped to make sure he was ok and give details when a few of his mates turned up giving it all the mouth. Cheers to the big Aussie guy who stuck around to add some presence.
They were only about 17 and one of them kind of ruined their big talk when he said he was getting his Mum.
Heal up quick rider. -

The markings will help a bit, there's more needs doing if this is to be an effective "Beeline" tho, especially as the proposal ignores what's in place on BMR already which would arguably be better to focus spends on developing.
Anyway, infrastructure thread >>>>>>>
