  • Charge Grater 1 might be suitable, if 1x8 drivetrain is enough for you.

  • Ta.

I'm going to have a Very British Sunday (TM) and wash the car and the commuting bike and give the latter a service.

Ironically the 10 year old piece of crap commuting bike I'm looking to replace is probably still worth more than the car.

  • Haha, sounds like the same argument that's been going on in the gravel thread 😬

The Pinnacles are good value, have a peek at the Lithium too

  • I think I have a bnib deore triple mech you can have for not much

  • I stripped the lockring thread on my rear wheel, any solutions for making it still usable?

I'm assuming glueing the cog and running it with a brake wouldn't be advised?

  • I'm assuming glueing the cog and running it with a brake wouldn't be advised?

Fit two brakes, no glue required.

  • Jockey wheels on ancient 8 speed Deore M510-L are in an awful state. Hardly any visible teeth and lots of play.

Buy and fit new jockey wheels? Seems expensive.
Replace the whole dérailleur? Can't find an exact replacement so what will work instead?
Buy a new bike since the rest of the components are knackered too? (Long term plan but skint.)

  • Fit S/S freewheel and two brakes :)

  • Surely Deore M510 was 9 speed. Any Shimano 9 speed MTB derailleur should work. Or jockey wheels are less than a tenner. Also the 'L' in RD-M510 -L just means it was black rather than silver.

  • Surely Deore M510 was 9 speed

That wouldn't stop it being used as an 8-speed 🙂

  • With amends for the terminal nitpicker:

@Greenbank: You have implied the derailleur is being used in an 8 speed system, but the Deore M510 groupset was 9 speed. However given Shimano 7, 8 and 9 speed MTB derailleurs had identical cable pull ratios, they can be considered at least backwards compatible. Thus a replacement from an 8 or 9 speed groupset are candidates. But one from a 9 speed groupset should be easiest to find in unused or good used condition. You may have problems if you switch a shorter cage (GS) to longer cage (SGS) variant, or vice versa. Or jockey wheels are less than a tenner. Also the 'L' in RD-M510 -L just means it was black rather than silver.

  • My rear inner gear cable frayed so I removed it today. The frayed cable has also caused damage to the black “tongue”.

Is it normal for the tongue to be this long? The shimano manual seems to show it being trimmed a lot shorter.

I’m wondering if I can just trim down the damaged part before fitting a new inner?

    (shimano 105 5800 group set)

This is also my first time doing this.

  • ^^ I trimmed it. Seems to be shifting ok with the new inner cable.

  • Female rapper, Little Kim or Lil Kim?

  • definitely not nenah cherry?

  • So in a few weeks I hope to have finalised my own personal Brexit and will live overseas for the foreseeable future. My understanding is that UK driving licences must show the correct address. If I had moved internally in the UK I guess I would have just told the DVLA and then wait for the updated card to turn up at my new address?

But what happens when I move abroad? For reference, the country I am moving to accepts my UK license as such, no need to retake the test. And in any case it does no require one's address on the card, so if I was to just keep using my current card I would break the law in Blighty only, but not my new domicile. Has anyone else here been trough this?

  • When I moved here I used my Aussie lic. until someone said that was only valid for 5 years and I should hand it in and I'd get a British one. Check that there's no time limits for the use of the your forrun mucky license. It might be easier to do the swap earlier.

  • Does anyone know where in London (ideally between/near Liverpool st and Waterloo) where I could book in to get bearings replaced on a novatec d772sb hub while I wait on Wednesday morning? I've got the bearings, I've got the wheel, but don't have the tools. I do, however, have a train booked from Waterloo to Portsmouth at 2.30 on the Wednesday to bob off and tour around France 😬

  • Where to get an older Chris King 10sp ISO rear hub serviced?

EDIT: Maybe I am wrong and it is the R45

Still wrong. It is a classic hub. I will be taking it to SBC.

  • No, sorry not her.

    @davidual nope

  • Basic question: was she black and American?

  • Yes

@Hippy Not her sorry, but i'll check the list.
