I like the fizzy wizzies so that's good to know. :)

So, what happened in TD? Is it even over yet? I'm so out of touch with "reality".
-
• #754
It's over for quite a few folks... But still quite a few out there.

Lee Craigie and Rickie Cotter haven't "finished Tour Divide" as the Adventure Syndicate twitter claims, they were both DQed. Rickie rode the entire GDMBR route, but took a lift back up Boreas pass after she missed the Gold Dust trail (required for South Bound riders) and Lee didn't ride the whole route.
It fucks me off that they are wording it as if they've finished.

I saw the problems Lee had, and saw that she'd scratched, but then it seemed strange that she then continued to the end without going back to the place she originally left the course. If she had could she not have still got a place in the GC?
I wasn't sure what was going on with Rickie as she appeared to be on course for almost the whole route until near the end, and then also showed as taking an alternative route.
I guess that explains it though. :) -

Lee was sick, then got medical attention only to continue the race and blow her BB. I rode with her briefly on HTR and she said it was going to be a recce run for a faster attempt later. Everyone was under the illusion they'd be starting before/after the grand depart as they were also filming for a documentary for the Adventure Syndicate. Then they left with the GD and rode fast. Rickie misunderstood the rules (which are pretty clear) and got DQed. Gotta accept it. Just be semantically correct and state you've finished the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, not the Tour Divide.

It's a totally fair point. As you say. Either ride the GDMBR and allow yourself as much freedom to stop, deviate from the route as you like, or race the TD and stick to the course and the rules.
They're not the same things after all. -

@Black_Rainbow_Project you might find this interesting. Fastest Singlespeeder this year, riding a Triton :) http://www.tydomin.com/

Ahhhhh... I was wondering which of the one coggers had got there first this year. :)

Just realised his was the bike I liked the look of in the tour divide rigs 2017 article.

I see Lewis Ciddor is racing and is in lead position. Met him many years ago in Karlsruhe for a polo tourney when he was just a kid. Vegan and killing it now.

I think I want to race again in 2020.

I've ridden with Lewis a bunch in recent times. Bit of a monster, and even more so since training for TD. Good to see he's crushing it.

And... he's done!

Huge ride huh?
-
• #771
he was very consistent, really impressive ride.
read somewhere he does 500 miles a week, every week, thanks to working as a messenger... -
• #772
Yeah, he does loads of miles (this year he's averaged about 400 a week), but there's a lot more to it than that, Some people didn't do those crazy miles, Mike Hall for example. It's also about consistency, panning, mental fortitude, etc. I've been super fit and had lots of time on the bike for several events and my head has total let me down on the day(s) and I've bailed due to a small issue that really shouldn't have stopped me pushing on. All I can do is learn from these experiences, and go back and try again!
-
• #773
yeah, absolutely. would love to ride with him...and also thinking about 2020 myself...
-
• #774
Has there been a faster rookie?
-
• #775
He's the fastest rookie I can think of so far
EDIT: Neil Beltchenko 2015 14:12:23
I was using them early in the TABR. They're shit. Expensive, taste gross, etc. I switched back to cans of 'normal' stupidly caffeinated drinks (Monster, iced coffee, coffee, etc)
