well a watch its definitely not just the cost of its parts. i say the longines is well priced considering the brands history/name plus its their design.
helson should try and create a design of their own. -

To be fair to them, they have quite a few unique watches.
I will definitely being a Gauge at some point in the future. Amazing things. Not sure which dial to go for though.

Not sure if the gap is that big. The Helson can have another £100+ added to it by the time it is through customs and you can get the Longines a few hundred cheaper. Still £500 though, would be interesting to see how the finish matched up. My Helson is the cheaper end of the scale there.

they do. and to be honest i did look at the sharkmaster (stupid name) because i really like the omega that its copied from, but i know that if i get it i will still want the omega. so i guess i will just have to wait!!

I kind of consider the Helson Shark Diver to be their own design. You hear loads of people calling it a sub homage, but it really isn't in my book.

but really would you pay $1900 for this?? 2cm tall!!

No, I'd get this one for $800

i dont have a problem with copies from very old models that are impossible to get i.e the steinhart ocean one vintage. but for models that you can get from the original manufacturer i consider it just a copy that i will never buy. i'd rather get a replica of that watch.

this one looks much better. and a unique design (as far as i know at least)

I can't deny that it is a total fucking lump, but its just really fun. And fun is good in a watch.

• #27888
true. maybe i should go for the sharkmaster. but those watchco omegas look so good. maybe next year.

New Steinhart Homage arrived. Looks good. Small for what I'm used to but looks good except for the steinhart logo.

Doesn't look small on you.
I thought you were going with a Pepsi for some reason.
Its a lot of watch for the money, isnt it?

It's not really Longines design either, they just stuck there own hand design and added some minute markers on the bought-in EPSA case. I'd rather have an original navy issue ones, maybe a Droz or an Enicar. Obvs the JLC Polaris with the added alarm is the holy grail though!
http://cdn.chrono24.com/images/uhren/images_45/s4/6497445_s210.jpg?v=1P.S i have an original plongeur one for sale at the mo, due a service (been 3 years) but keeping fine time £400

^ Very good points. When you really dig into the history of various famous watches (moonwatch, submariner, etc etc) you begin to see that they ALL ripped each other off at some point.
Didn't Rolex pinch the gas escape valve from Doxa and the rotating bezel from Longines (although Movado, Zenith and a few others did it earlier too). Blancpain were the first to do it in a dive watch I think. I think the chrono movement as we know it came from Zenith.

Yeah, it's more about whether they are significant in their design rather than original/founding. That's why Nomos smash it so fiercely - Genuinely unique in both the look and the internals!
-
• #27895
Noob question probs, but what is the second crown in the watches above? Is it to rotate the bezel or something?
(I assume the one with 3 is for the alarm) -
• #27896
well not really. anw you can find similar older designs for most watches.

It rotates the internal bezel as you can't do it with a twist like you would a submariner...
-
• #27898
I’m too poor to buy anything at the moment. But a nice style plongeur is on the list. Been wearing this for a couple of days already. It was the itch-scratcher for internal bezel, and mad case design. So very chunky.

Looks like the Helson is definitely good value. And you rate them as a brand? Which do you think?
So is the Helson underpriced at £560 or the Longines overpriced at £1,460?
They both have ETA 2824 on the inside...
Well, Longines fit their own branded rotor weight on the 2824 and call it a L633 instead.
