  • I really like that. If you don't get on with it let me know... As long as you'll post to Australia

  • I'm not sure exactly why it happens... Maybe it is down to lug length or thickness too?

Both of those are huge factors. The traditional width measurement doesn't actually help that much.

The lug shape and bracelet interface also matter - with bracelets you should really measure from the point of no flexibility.... but how on earth can you do that in a a standardised way?

Severity of profile contributes a bit too. Something like a Nautilus has very rounded edges, so even the bigger models slim down. Whereas a lot of dive watches look like they sit high.

On the digi tuna - were you tempted to get the Pepsi bezel?

  • Thanks for that, very interesting

  • Very tempted but couldn't find anywhere that wasn't sold out. I think, on balance, that I went with the one I prefer though. Just.

  • Apparently the bezel actually works pretty well with the digital display. Looking forward to finding out why. Who knows, maybe this will be another £200 diver to add to the serious dive watch list :D

  • On the subject of size I always love the way hoodinki manages to describe any <40mm as wearing "larger than those numbers might lead you to believe", whereas >40mm never "feels oversized due to [lugs/profile/etc.] ",

  • I think I'll probably end up picking one of these up - off to LA and Hawaii in a week and it'd be a perfect holiday watch. Is there any reason not to get the SKX013, to better suit my delicate, ladylike wrists? Same watch, but smaller, right?

  • Not really.

The lugs are similar length and its the same height, so don't assume it will feel much smaller. It's different.

I've come to really like mine, but I should have tried a skx007/9 first.

  • I don't mind a bit of profile, it's just the thing where the straps come off perpendicular to the watch that I want to avoid. I've got a 40mm watch and that's about as large as I reckon I can pull off but maybe a bit of height would help, weirdly.

  • I've had both models and have really skinny wrists, yet I really didn't like the size of the 013. Get a 007!

  • I feel like a diver should be a bit chunky by definition, i spose. I'd get both and return one, but I'm out of the country for too long and i'd definitely forget to get it in the post before i go.

  • it's just the thing where the straps come off perpendicular to the watch that I want to avoid.

That's about lug length and the height about the case back.

    I've got a 40mm watch

Which will be measured width ways.

Like I said, I like it. The narrower size makes it slightly boxy and angular. Try both on.

My main gripe at the moment is I'd like to do some subtle mods - like a black bezel and hands - but there's barely anything aftermarket, and whereas the 007/09 has a ridiculously large scene

  • SKX173 is also cool and a bit less common.

  • Those gloves seem a bit useless for diving

  • They help in low light conditions.

  • Orient are also worth looking at for the cheap end. The Mako or the Ray. An orange face obviously

(although I'd really recommend a 1st gen Orange Monster for that).

  • (although I'd really recommend a 1st gen Orange Monster for that).

I'm wearing a 1st gen black monster today.

I just prefer it to my 007.

  • Been wearing the old busted G-Shock for weeks, since the Onsa went weird again. Might put on that Cronel Jet King actually.

  • I reckon they'd go really well with something dayglo and anti, plus a glow stick or two.

  • What brand is it ?

  • Have we had the Timex Marlin yet?

    34mm, manual wind, pretty, £179

However, I don't understand why you'd pay that much for a new one when you can buy a 1960s one for £80 on eBay.

  • Seems way too dear

  • New Helson. I like, but for a few hundred more I'd go with the Longines instead.

  • Soft spot!

  • hahaha thats exactly the same as the longines. they could have at least fix the ugly hour hand
