  • Missus takes bikeboxallen out for the bike.

Test fitting a new phone mount for live tweeting updates on the state of my butt during TABR/TCR. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get my bigger phone to quick release. Probably for the best.

  • What mount?

I need to start getting my shit together, once exams over.

  • Been asked to close down the finish from 11th > 16th. Suppose all you fast lot will have longer finished by then?

  • Yup. Some time on the 7th.

  • It's not a new mount so much as new case. Quadlock.

  • ETA Permitted Activities says:
"Cycling - Standard (excluding BMX, mountain biking and racing)"

    Erm..

  • It can't be that difficult to build a case around the Oxford comma could it?

Mountain biking and racing is clearly not road biking and racing.

  • Their Exempted Activities list does exclude Mountain Biking so that's entirely possible.
Plus, they insured a bunch of people for TCR last year. I'm just confuzzled now. I can't remember how I sorted insurance. I think I might just get a multi-trip with them to cover TABR / TCR.

  • I spoke with ETA on the phone this morning who covered me for TCR last year for around £17 (!) but they will not provide cover this year as their policies have changed to not include racing. Currently looking at Dogtag or Yellow Jersey which are more expensive. Has anyone had any experience of these?

  • It may be a race by name and be competitive, but the competitive element is minor: most riders are aiming to finish, and finish in a certain time period. I wouldn't call Audax a race, but the way a lot of riders (and seemingly the UCI Grand Fondo series) treat sportives, they're more like races than TCR.

  • ETA seemed to think they couldn't cover it when I spoke with them.

  • That's a shame, I've used them for TCR and Indypac. But well done for calling to clarify.
Yellow jersey must be ok as I'm sure I saw a TCR email/Facebook post (ie a post from Anna not a clueless random on the TCR group) mentioning them

Yeah, got an email from TCR a few days ago offering a 10% discount for participants.
Went to look on the website, couldn't work out what I needed/crap site so will phone. Bike back tomorrow. Yay

  • Ah, well that sucks. I'd planned to use them again.

I'm gonna GDPR SAR their arses now..

  • Yeah, 10% discount for TCR riders. I may use that and get a multi-trip policy to cover the USA as well. Pedalcover also offer travel insurance and being geared up for riders deal with racing so I might check them out too. https://pedalcover.co.uk/cycling-travel-insurance-quote/

I think Yellow Jersey was ~£150 for TABR which seems way too spendy.

  • Thanks! I will look into pedal cover too. Pity about ETA as they were significantly cheaper than their competitors.

  • Pedalcover for anal multi inc. USA is £85, which is substantially cheaper than Yellow or Dogtag but I don't know what they cover. My bikes are already covered by Pedalcover though so it's more about medical etc

  • Anal cover? saddle sores you mean?

  • Anal Multitrip. It's why I do these silly races.

  • I don't think I'm going to be able to ride this one.

Am lying in hospital having had my cardiac arteries explored this afternoon. The cardiologist didn't like what he saw and it looks like I'll have to come back for a bypass next week. Unfortunately that's as in a heart operation, not a new bit of fast DC round the edge of a town!

I expect I'll be off the bike for a little while. Should be able to ride at some point but not this much this soon.

  • Shit, sorry to hear this Frank. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  • Ah I’m sorry frank. But that’s way more importent. I hope it all goes ok for you.

  • That must be tough. Hope all goes well with the surgery. Do you get to defer your place?

  • That's terrible. Wishing you better soon! I was the rider you spoke with yesterday who was doing the Ditchling Devil.
