@Skülly @motoko @hippy @coldharbour
Thanks all. This is for my Isen all road rando gravel touring etc. I actually already have the mudguard mounted Son rear light. I like the position but it’s a bit of a faff when packing the bike up and when I want to fit wider tyres I need to get rid of the guards. So I was thinking it be easier to just have the light on the seat post or just below on the seat tube. On the saddle looks good but sometimes I ride with a seat bag so that wont work. Maybe the best thing to do is to keep it on the mudguard and use a battery light when needed.

I kind of came to the same conclusion.
If running my Isen without guards, battery lights will do, at least for the rear.

Is this thing the holy grail of super affordable and bright enough to use for night cycling? The info says 70 lux but it's a new one for this year and there's little online about it... Has anyone come across the IQ-XS in the flesh? It looks small in size, a nice shape and the aluminium body surely beats the LUXOS? I'm hovering over the order button...

Ooooh! oooh! Have you got any pics of it on a bike? I'm often disappointed when I see how big some of these lights are... Are you happy enough with it in the pitch black countryside descending at not super human speeds?

Alright then. Give me 5 ...

Are you happy enough ...
I only got hold of them a couple of months ago. Rose bikes had the best price. The black version has a standlight.
Thoughts so far:
- small / neat / metal
- love that you don't touch the thing, it senses daylight/dusk and does it's own thing (faultlessly)
- It doesn't have the throw of the top SP light (that a friend owns)
- It has quite a precise beam, with spill below
- ^ this means you have to set it up level or you get blind spots above the main beam
- It's a very, very usable beam for fast night riding
- I can imagine it gets out of it's depth on night time trail riding ... you'd want more spill
- I like it very much!

That's confirmed that this is the light for me. Thanks for the pics dude! And for the words! I'm surprised that there's not loads of gushing online about it, as it seems pretty much perfect for most needs. Excited for dynamo lit summer nights!

Need to order a new front light today (am sending old one back to Rose for repair/refund but it may not work, and may take an age) so if anyone can recommend one to me I'd be grateful...
I have the Shimano Alfine hub dynamo and this rear light. I don't mind spending a bit more if it'll be more resilient and waterproof but ideally not spending a fortune. Bit confused by all the wiring standards - do I have to get another B&M front light in order to avoid having to solder new connectors on?

Two price points:
1: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=246825
2: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=67824I have this: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=144878
It has a little condensation inside but working fine so far. I have ridden it in some truly hideous weather.Wild(card): https://exposurelights.com/revo-dynamo
Exposure will support the product for life. -

Another vote for the IQ-X, we have three across various bikes and one of them gets truly horrid treatment - has been fine (although a little condensation as @amey says). Nice to be able to mount it upside down too.

Just to stick my nose in I have the IQ-X as well, and it's great. Very bright, and of course no soldering required. No issues either after 8 hours in the solid rain with no front mudguard (eep)

IQ-XS ordered...
Thanks all.

I've also printed out this Rose Bikes return form, so maybe at some point I'll have a spare B&M front light that I can build an entire bike around, a la DBAD.

Battery lights are dead

Damn right. I'm a huge dynamo convert.

I’m building a bike for my other half and have just bought a wheel set for £180, I’m now considering before I use them whether I can build a dyno set for nearly the same price. 15mm thru axle means the hub is bit more spendy at £130 but I already have the rims.

Always dynamo. Always!

I have one of these going spare. 50 quid? Less than cost.

But @scottparsley said 'I have bought the seatpost-mount light'. Think Motoko's suggestion seems the most sensible. Then a just tiny bit of cable will go back down outside the seat post to the lamp.
I think the mudguard mounted son is the best. Means you can run a rack or not without re-wiring, and sits underneath saddlebags. The only drawback is having to use a mudguard. Which isn't a drawback as far as I'm concerned.
