  • Saying that, currently shitting it with two audaxes upcoming because I've forgotten everything!

  • Are you riding London Wales London?

  • I've done LWL as Severn Across a few times. Changing it up with Brevet Cymru and Porkers .

  • That Porkers route looks truly awful/great in equal measures (6AAA points! ). Sure it will make anything that the TCR can throw at you look easy!

  • I've got to get across Wales first. I know I can ride anything but it's always a question of motivation - how much damage do I want to do to myself at this time of year? I entered them both as I wanted to ride them both rather than for a specific training benefit so if I'm not enjoying them I don't mind aborting.

  • I rode the Ruska, 1755km, 5 weeks after TCR. I had recovered pretty well but I did feel my max power was lower than usual, didn't measure anything. While my pace was somewhat average at the beginning, it basically stayed the same for the whole ride and was good for me looking at the whole distance. On TCRs I've had different phases, like first fast, then tired, then fast again, then exhausted. At Ruska it was just level. Riding felt good and I didn't need to take breaks much, only a couple short ones a day. Though I was suitably broken after I finished, having ridden as fast as I could. I think I would have been faster in Ruska if I hadn't been in TCR before it, but the effect wasn't enormous. But Ruska was rather easy compared to these others, even with the weather.

  • Best of luck @hippy, look forward to hearing how you get on over in the audax thread!

  • Good luck all of you, especially @skinny & @7ven :D

Training is all irrelevant anyway. Once your arse looks like an uncooked hamburger patty no one gives a fuck about your FTP it's all about taking your mind off raw sitbones.

For what it is worth in my Audax days I and many others used Surgical spirit to clean the sit bone area, it helps toughen the skin, (DO NOT DO THIS POST RIDE OR HOT BATH) as someone old Cycling Plus forum did .

For arse creams either Pro-shield or one II used was Siopel, these are for preventing bed sores but work by stopping the sweating and ergo production of salt crystals which is what does the damage, I used to carry wet wipes and clean and reapply at every check control or sixty to eighty miles., you find out what works for you in training or other events.

  • What USB charger does everyone use. I am getting supernova front and rear with SON delux hub and was thinking of getting an Igaro. Has anyone opinions on this and other chargers?

  • Sinwave is decent. I think @skinny has/had one?

  • I'm not sure if son deluxe is powerful enough for charging. I think you want the 28

  • I am sure it is. Just slightly less than the 28. Although I haven't used it yet!

  • Delux is just fine for charging. And I use a sinewave (paid for) it's been fine for 3 tcr now.
Son have changed their website, but there was info on there. Email them to get them to confirm power figures, I can't find them,

  • Ah I had presumed that because they say it's designed for led lights it wouldn't provide the watts. Found this in the faqs, Classic mobile phones and GPS devices work with economic power consumption. You can power them with a suitable charging device and a SON 28 or a SONdelux just as well. If you would like to charge a power-hungry smartphone at speeds lower than 20 km/h you should rather go for a SON 28. At speeds higher than 20 km/h you may charge a modern smartphone by using a SONdelux together with an efficient charging device.

  • FYI. Don't change your phone of other stuff with the dynamo. Best to get a battery back, charge that, then use battery pack to charge electronic devices.
Can then also charge it if stopped for lunch/sleep.

  • Also I think they're taking about charging a phone that you're using. If you're not using your phone it'll charge just fine, in good time.

Also, you'll never really be able to use lights and charger, not enough power produced, so plan ahead.

  • Sinewave do a discount too. (I belive igaro do also) so don't forget to get that.

  • Sons are very efficient, so you can see power output is power input -1 Watt.

  • Thanks. How does the sinewave cope with rain? Not planning to charge whilst it is raining but do the connections have some sort of cover. I know that the igaro does not have a cover.

  • Check their website to confirm, but it’s waterproof.

I keep it in my frame bag. Never known why people would mount an electrical device externally and open to the elements.

  • waterproof

  • Even if it is in the framebag I would imagine that water could still enter. How do you avoid this?

  • No you should not get water in your framebag.
