I have met a couple of people who said their dogs changed, became more lethargic. Problem being that could just coincide with the dog maturing anyway. Other than the nut-cancer reason, the marking would be the only reason I'd be chopping him which strikes me as a gamble, he's not aggressive, doesn't really stray unless the squirrels are taunting him, not really humpy...yet!
I foresee him pissing on a group of teenagers sat having a spliff this summer and that might be the end of debate. -

Aaaaaand he’s booked in for the chop tomorrow, little piss bag.

Good luck. For us (well, him) the first 24 hours was a bit rotten in terms of being a little scared by the anaesthesia effects but improved very rapidly from there. I think Otto was 100% after a couple of days and fully healed after a week.

Sat at home feeling sick, the vet called at lunch time to say there have been some complications with the procedure, apparently his nutsack has filled with blood post op so he’s under close observation, his temperature is low so getting lots of cuddles from the staff. Feeling very guilty, the house is horribly quiet without him.
Edit: sorry buddy, I’ll make it up to you.

Brought new baby home on wednesday. Things been ok with the dog, he's barking a fair bit though, obviously a bit unsettled. The crying can set him off. Think it's just adjustment but my wife is a bit more concerned. Anyone else brought a baby home and how was the dog?

Yes, recently. Our dog was incredibly eager to come and investigate. We wanted to make sure that he was extra respectful of the baby's space so wouldn't let him too close - led to a bit of whining and frustration. A couple of timeouts where we shut him in the spare bedroom helped a lot. After a couple of days, everything calmed down. A couple of months later, they're best of chums. Basically you want to imprint that the baby > dog in your pack...once that's settled, all should be good.

After seeing a dog in a trailer on the functional bikes thread, I've been having ideas. Has anyone used anything like this?

Was it any good though?

It was great.

He's been fine. Was awful timing as a bitch in heat was a few doors down. Drove him round the bend for about a week, he was off his food, wouldnt concentrate, was acting up, attention seeking, all at same time as trying to introduce the baby. Anyway he really is the nicest dog - except to postie and anyone in hi-viz - and things have been great.

Just bought one of the trailers, not arrived yet but looking forward to it. Going to try to get the little guy used to it before a week's holiday in Cornwall I've got coming up.

Just feed your dog in the trailer a few times before you even think of taking it for a ride in the trailer. It needs to be really at ease before going for a spin.

Thanks, will do. He is fine with the car now as he associates it with going to fun places, hopefully the same will happen with the trailer

He weighs 16kg and the trailer probably weighs at least 5kg, maybe 10kg? So I'm glad Cornwall is pretty much pancake flat. Gonna take the MTB for dem low low gears.

I would be worried about a trailer like that not having any shade

We are surrounded by dogs here in Oz, everyone has at least one... Gf is desperate to get one but I'm really not keen, on the plus side we've become regular dogsitters which I think suits us better... All the benefits but, etc... We regularly look after Cara, Percy and Pippa, Teddy and Lola... Teddy's coming over tomorrow, can't wait he's such a character, an absolutely beautiful Labradoodle...
Lola's almost ready to have pups, we've been offered one of her first litter... Not sure I'll be able to resist but gonna do my best, bull terriers are my absolute favourites...

We're fairly certain that we didn't see any change at all.
It's a contentious issue for sure but I have never met anybody who says their dog changed personality after getting the chop. Of course, could just be making themselves feel better.
