Very soon. :) Thumbies are on the way, and I've just got a proper real wheel with an immaculate DX hub and 7s HG casette.

I run 1x7 on my rigid MTB and it’s great fun!

• #105
That looks great!!

Cheers mate, I love it, my favourite bike so far (but I have a strange feeling this Marin will be better)!

• #107
Yeeeeeee.
Got a klunker vibe to it now.
Shweet. -

Love a thumbing, me! I mean thumbY, I love a thumbY..

Great choice with the thumby!

Cheers lads, I prefer thumbies over anything as well. :)
I might have accidentally bought a Scott Santa Cruz trekking bike from 1993, so this project will be a tiny bit delayed...

Accidents happen, just send the Marin my way, I'll take care of it :)

Gears! 1x7 ftw. Money shot soon.

awesome, how are the brakes?
-
• #117
Thanks! Not bad at all, but they need proper brake pads. I will order some Kool Stops in a month or so.

Time for some updates. Installed two sets of Avid Shorty 4 brakes with some proper brake pads, stopping power increased a quite a bit, so that's settled.
Also ordered a set of Schwalbe Big Apples in 26x2.15 (Maxxis DTH's are unavaliable everywhere in this country, idk why), will install them next week sometime. Really curious how better will it ride than these Kendas. -

Looks wicked! Did you have any issues fitting the bar with that stem? As in, managing to get around the curves of the bar?
-
• #120
Thanks! No, not a single issue with that.

What's your drivetrain stuff in terms of chain retention? NW ring? And no clutch mechs for 7 speed obviously unless you've done something clever and bodged one?
Looking good though
Edit: also is it just me or are your valves a bit wonky?
-
• #122
No retention whatsoever, but only one chain drop so far, that happened yesterday at around 5 kph. :P
What do you mean by clutch mechs? The RD is a Deore LX RD-M563 with a 7s Shimano Light Action thumby. So nothing fancy, just a simple conversion. I am thinking about getting a narrow wide chainring though.

As in a derailleur that has a clutch mechanism to stop the chain from bouncing around; Shimano calls them Shadow Plus (I think) and SRAM calls them type 2 or 2.1. They're really good actually but only available in 10-speed SRAM or 11-speed Shimano (I think).
Was just wondering if you'd got one to work somehow because it didn't look like a NW chainring and I was wondering whether the chain comes off often - it does on mine, so I've ordered a NW chainring a couple of days ago, but was wondering how you were getting on.
What are the little things on the chainring? They look like chain links!
Anyway super nice bike, when I get a job that pays actual money I might do mine up with shiny bits so it looks similarly nice :)

To be totally fair I have no idea what are those things on the chainring, I though they were some kind of shifting-helpers or something.
Thanks by the way, but this bike is nowhere near shiny. :P And I bought most of the stuff for very very cheap. Crankset was like 5 GBP, RD as well, thumbies were traded with a friend so lots of lucky purchases here.
I have to shoot some pics sometime, new tyres, pedals and brakes are already installed. -

Sweet, look forward to it!
Looks great, needs gears though!
