  • 68.5kg from 72kg. Its taken 2.5months. Hard hard going.
Been weight-lifting though so I think LBM has increased substantially.

  • Nice one! That's pretty substantial.

  • Changed the battery in my scale this morning as it was conking-out. 72.4kg

How you stand on the scale seems to affect the results but this seemed pretty certain even with some shifting around.

  • 9 weeks on keto now and lost 9kg exactly.
    Still loving this diet.
Still missing beer (but learning to love rum & ginger beer or g&t).

  • Ah cheers. Just compared to the late 20s where I could decide to lose weight and drop to 66kg without even trying too hard it feels slow.
For those interested I'm carb cycling and ensuring no ketotic nonsense.
    M/ Tues/ Sun: 1480 kcal, Protein 195g, Fat 60g, Carbs 40g
    W/ Sat: 1650kcal, Protein 195g, Fat 60g, Carbs 82g
Thursday: 990 kcal, Protein 160g, Fat and Carbs 20g
    Friday: 1700kcal, Protein 195g, Fat 60g, Carbs 100g.

  • How can you drink ginger beer and rum on a keto diet?

  • tipping pack of crisps into face wondering if I should weigh in today

  • My bathroom scales broke a few days ago. Do I win the thread?

  • Most rums are 0 carbs (or <1 per measure) even though made from sugar (unless they are flavoured ones).
Mixed with Old Jamaica extra fiery ginger beer (which amazingly we found Wetherspoons do).

  • I guess I assumed they'd have sugar left over since they're usually quite sweet and ginger beer must have sugar in it or is it a diet version?

  • Yeah the extra firey one is 0, and well spicy and nice!

I thought the same about rum (as have a few friends questioning the keto diet and rum choice) but I've checked as many places as I can and looks legit that rum is either 0 or very low carb.
I guess whatever the process is of making it gets rid of all the actual sugar content.
Found this while looking it up, could be bullshit:

True: rum does not have carbs. Those are either fully fermented or removed during the first distillation. So why does rum (and bourbon, and some whiskeys etc) taste sweet? Due to aromatic hydrocarbons being formed / released from the barrel during the aging process.

  • It makes sense that most of it would be fermented into alcohol, I'd just assumed it was sweet as it wasn't all gone. I don't feel so bad about those Zombies I was drinking last night... :D

  • Adjusted MFP to 'highly active' from 'winter dossing' mode

Wahay, 600 more calories a day

  • Started again on this with a bit more focus now. Current carbs around 50-100g a day depending on how I'm feeling and will look to drop that next week to under 50g. Feel much better and minimal sugar cravings so far.

  • Hitting them with a hammer doesn't technically count you know...

  • Off to get a Thai curry for lunch. No decent salads near my home office.

Which is better for me red or green? ;)

  • Alright, due to a couple reasons including (but not limited to) me being a lazy cunt, I let the whole weight loss thing slip and now I've gained a bit of weight. Would ideally like to lose the 2-3 kg I gained since last posting here before the end of may and then continue from there.

    17.4. - 80.4

  • 67.6 two days in a row this week.
Sunshine seems to be my secret need.

  • A lot of people here regain. So you have to decide I think what maintenance looks like, and then that's the weight you can stick to.

That way you set yourself up for long-term success.

I would like to lose another 2 kg but my maintenance will be a lot more hassle due to extra exercise, so I am not doing it. But I am fine with not eating junkfood/drink alcohol often.

So if you regain a little because you don't want to give up some things, that's fine. It's not always 100% lack of discipline. Build in some chocolate/beer and enjoy life.

  • ^ This. It does seem to be a case of finding your sweet-spot which will involve a bit of up and down on the scales depending on your body and exercise levels.

On that note, I seem to be able to cut down to 72kg but at that point I start getting heinous munchies, tiredness, slow recovery and a tendency to binge.
At 74kg, I seem to be able to maintain a really good strength-to-weight ratio and have loads of energy for climbing/weights and recover/sleep well.

Decided to stop counting things so much and just eat when hungry (but not when bored) as going by feeling seems to translate to feeling better overall.

  • Back up to 93... back down to 92... bets on being at 90.something by Friday then 92 next monday...

  • The boyfriend "you seem very unhappy on a diet"

No shit. My brain likes being fuelled :p

There is all this chat about hormonal setpoints etc.. but I think in the end your body has an "easy" store that it needs, and once you drop below a certain level the easy store is empy and it all becomes hard.

I suspect you can tweak this by eating well, exercising, not being too fat (insulin resistance innit) and losing weight in stages. But as you say, it only goes so far until you hit the buffers.

  • Lost 9.5kg in 10 weeks.
    Down to 77.1kg total.

Loss rate is definitely slowing, but given I'm not really calorie counting anymore (or going gym) I'm happy enough!

Will be back on the bike for regular commuting next week, so that should hopefully kick start the weight dropping speed again.

Discovered that keto cake and custard is actually well nice.

  • Nearly a kg a week is not bad at all! :)

  • That's bonkers. How?!
