  • Given some plans have anything up to 4 weeks for a taper plan, I'd be inclined to be cautious and rest up if there's any underlying niggle in the calf. You're not gonna get much fitter from another long run, and you're in good shape. If it feels better after a few days' rest, by all means get a few miles in (including some at/quicker than target pace) but take it easy.

The Maidenhead 10 mile race tomorrow will be a decent substitute for any MP efforts this week, and I'm feeling OK about having a couple of easy days yesterday and today so that I can give it a good blast. Got my eye on a PB (and the V45 rankings for a relatively obscure distance!)

  • Ah I would have seen you there if I'd got my act together and not left it a day too late to enter. Victoria Park Half for me tomorrow, as long as I don't do something stupid I should be on for a seven or so minute PB (its been a long long time since I've run a half).

  • Good luck! Is that a new event? I've only ever run 5k/10k there. Should be pretty quick, if you don't mind running laps.

  • It was very temporary. Legs just felt rubbish yesterday. Much much better today.

  • Seems to have been on last Easter too, couple of people ran 75s so hoping to go reasonably quick. Not a lap fan but needs must and all that!

  • Sub 75 and championship start for London next year is sorted!

  • Probably not that quick!

  • @5awyr Might see you there. Hope you have a good one.

I think I’m going to try a bit of walk-running this time. I know I can complete a HM without stopping, but this is all prep for the MK marathon and I reckon short walk breaks are going to help my old hams keep ticking over the full distance.

On the bike I was always happiest riding in a concatenation of spirited interludes. The fast-twitch fibres preferred it. I’ve also realised that my long runs (up to 37k) have all had unintentional micro-breaks: crossing busy roads, piss-stops, navigational faux pas.

Wish the weather forecast was a bit less shit.

  • Anyone here bought any Tribe running gear?

I have some underwear from them which is very comfortable.

I was looking to get a sweat-wicking sweatshirt for the weather at the moment. I have a winter jacket for running but it's getting a bit hot, but just a top on its own is too cold. The Tribe stuff looks nice but it's pricey. It strikes me as a bit of a runner's Rapha, just not as achingly cool.

  • I was looking to get a sweat-wicking sweatshirt for the weather at the moment.

What country are you living in at present?

  • Inner south east London

  • I've got a tribe parkrun t shirt which seems decent. it doesn't get worn all that if he.

i normally wear a base layer and arm warmers under a short sleeve t shirt if it is cold or wet.

and gloves of course! (and socks, shorts or tights).

    I think I'd melt in a sweatshirt

  • Wear a vest.

  • @5awyr running well in Victoria Park!

sorry if the random shout out gave you a shock

  • Yeah, great run @5awyr. Got that sub-75. Amazing.

For my second HM I stuck with the planned walk breaks. Took 5 x 30s rests, spoiling myself with a single date on breaks 2 & 3, and a few sips of water on break 4. Got around in 1:26:27. Pleased with that at end of highest mileage month and general feeling of meh in mind and body.

  • Haha the first time it caught me unawares but I figured it was you!

Good to meet you @BringMeMyFix, I tried to catch you after but think I missed you in the crowds, well done to you too!

  • I was busy trying to stuff my ‘key pocket’ with extra flapjacks for the family.

  • I must have missed the flapjacks, I was given a bottle of protein water, the concept of which I fond alarming but actually tasted reasonable.

  • I necked a bottle of that protein stuff. It didn’t sit well on the 6k run home. I had to ask about the other stuff. There were bananas/flapjacks/etc. in the bit where we collected our numbers. Free massage too, but I couldn’t be arsed hanging around.

Someone second in the queue for the massage was afflicted by runner’s cough, but only realised when he had a mouth full of protein drink which he then spat at high velocity at the back of the head of the bloke in front of him and one of the helpers. They were quite chilled about it.

  • Great run! And congrats to @5awyr for the sub-75, such a quality milestone.

Reasonably happy with my Maidenhead 1o mile race today. A little outside my PB with a time of 54:35, almost identical to my 10-mile split at the HM four weeks ago but on possibly marginally slower terrain (lots of puddles and mud) and heavier legs. 13th overall (quality field, 68 runners under the hour), 3rd V40, 1st team, and I thought I'd done enough to top the V45 10 mile rankings, but the "V40" 50 seconds ahead of me is also a V45. I'll take 2nd though!

  • The effort of going that little bit faster must take years of these people’s lifespan. Hold tight and they’ll drop dead soon enough. Then victory is yours.

  • Haha! I thought about a free massage as there was no queue but elected to go in search of food instead (and then managed to get lost in London, yes, I am a fully formed stereotype of your countryside dweller).

@PhilPub cheers! Nice work yourself, 68 going under an hour is serious stuff.

  • Well done all racers, flying.

I trod on this in my speedcross's. How it didn't go right through into my foot i'll never know. #lucky

  • Eek!

Holy crap! My Kent AC club mate / elite triathlete Alex Yee has just gone second ALL TIME in the parkrun rankings (behind Andy Baddeley) with 14:05 at Dulwich Park this morning. He's doing the national relays for us in a couple of weeks. :)

  • So my Forerunner 35 has just gone on the brink. Randomly turning off and the backlight flickering. Does anyone have a running watch they are looking to sell? Doesn't have to be fancy just need something that will give me pace stats
