Just made it into South Australia. Won’t make it to Nullarbor Roadhouse before it closes tonight. It’s 188km away, next one is another 144km. I’m stocking up at Border Village with enough food and water to bridge the entire gap. So if I get to Nullarbor and feel energetic/ aggressive then I will be able to continue. Knee still swollen though. Isn’t that bad once it’s warmed up after 10km or so, but stiffens up when stopped. Big sleep last night. Just need to survive to Adelaide and keep Pawel in my sights.
Well done! You wont' have phone coverage now until just before Nullarbor RH.
I camped out in the bush around where you will be - it's pretty pleasant but lots of ants.
Yalata RH closed so next one is Nundroo, from memory more like another 180km!
I stocked up with loads of water at BV too and never needed it - Nullarbor was open by the time I got there.
A few of the guys were suffering with knee issues and they bought bags of ice at evey servo and sat with it on their knees while they ate. You can always get it usualy in fridges out the front, often even at night if you need it - just take it and leave some money somewhere. -

From Joe's Instagram:
durianrider Keep charging bro! 👊👊Is it true Abdullah has a support car meeting him each day?
-
• #1305
What is is insta name?
-
• #1306
Knowing internet durianrider quite well I’d say it’s hyperbole

Great work mate, don't overcook your knee! Health is more important than winning.

Abdullah day 5 - 469.2km. 1,546m @26.1km/h - 18h moving time. He’s in port Augusta.

• #1309
It was on twitter. 500k/day for the first 2 or 3 then 400s.
EDIT: https://twitter.com/bugwan/status/976276647425990658
2017: Kristof Allegaert - 1,935km
2018: Abdullah Zeinab - 1,684km*Unfair to compare, given conditions vary, but hey...

Once again... no backup?
-
• #1312
Only cable of phone looks dead. Was too brainfuck yesterday to find out
Stephane in facebook.
-
• #1313
It looks like he has been run ragged by trying and failing to catch Abdullah to the point at which he was not thinking straight.
A faulty cable shouldn't cost time, you would expect someone with his experience to have more back-up. -
• #1314
Can't race without a phone? WTF.
Anyway, anyone who says 'i'm not racing now i'm touring' can gtfo and not come back.
-
• #1315
Think kristof had worse conditions.

2017: Kristof Allegaert - 1,935km
2018: Abdullah Zeinab - 1,684km
Interesting - I hadn't realised that Kristof was piling on so much pressure. I was a bit busy at the time so didn't follow it closely ;-)
So he would have been 250km further up the road than Abdullah. And Mike and Sarah would have been a bit further along too.
Agree re conditions - comparisons only for illustration. I think the leaders had it a bit easier for a couple of days last year, before the wind picked up, specially for me. -

Same thing happens to me every ultra.
Got any Voltaren? (Ibuprofen/NSAID you can rub into your knee).
I don't recommend pill form Ibuprofen any more. -
• #1318
Be wary of giving assistance...
-
• #1319
Isn't your knee supposed to be fat?
-
• #1320
I'm not giving assistance, I'm posting on an internet forum while sat on my arse in London.
No question of his was answered, no navigation help was offered, I merely voiced an opinion -of mine- online.
Also, it's not a race. There are no rules, there is no organiser. Right?
Can you imagine if I started posting "assistance" online to every rider in front of me - would they all be DQ'd allowing me to win? I don't think so.

• #1321
Fat, fatter, fattest.
There's always scope for improvement.
-
• #1322
No Abdullah! Turn left! LEFT!
-
• #1323
Oh shit, the leader has just been DQd. Whoops.
-
• #1324
You know what I mean.
Navigation or not, telling someone what cream might be good, could be considered assistance in some peoples eyes.
-
• #1325
Where do you draw the line?
Interesting debate.Kristof is probably the most supported unsupported ultra racer out there in terms of sponsorship no? And he’s won every race he’s ever entered.
Good stuff Joe! Thoughts and prayers for that knee.
