Funny, looks like I've started false rumours! What he says on FB was that his stuff wouldn't charge. I assumed that, when he was riding along, he would be using a dynamo for it to charge. Batteries are pretty good but even I don't expect them to charge when I'm riding.
I reckon he was being too demanding -

Who has had a dynamo break on an ultra?
Rishi had hers pack in on TCR 2016, but she packed for other reasons so wasn't a disaster
I know a guy who had one fail on PBp, he had to use a little led keyring they gave us as a freebie at one of the controls. -

No surprise a dynamo-hater got their facts about lighting wrong. :P
Maybe his charge cables are fucked or he plugged it into a socket and it didn't charge - both things have happened to me in races previously but weren't a big deal because I can charge while riding because I have a dynamo...
Exposure lights require specific charge cables so if he's broken one of them with no spare he might be a bit fucked, but they are substantially tougher than normal USB cables. If it was a case of overloading a shitty USB charger at a stop, he can possibly get another USB charger and try again (I did this when I was topping stuff up - bought two crap chargers instead of one).

Which hub was she using and what failed?
If you say DT Swiss 240 I will only be a little disappointed.Aren't you required to have two lights in PBP?
Nope, just a suggestion: "Bikes must possess a lighting system powerful enough to be seen at a distance of 100 m from the front and 150 m from the rear. It must be securely and permanently fixed on the bike, even during daytime, and in working order at all times. Flashing LEDs at the rear are forbidden. Backup lighting systems are strongly recommended."

Actually Rishi said in FB that her dynamo, the bearings, broke before she left for TCR in 2016, not during the race.

Jesse broke a dynamo at a start line once, guess that counts?
The big race for me now is between the women top three very close and Jo and Pawels on fixed.

His batteries had run out on his other one!

Wasn't that the following year? I guess not so important, just trying to divert some of the flak back from me onto unreliable dynamos for getting it wrong re Stephane!

Was that on RttR this year? I didn't realise it was his dynamo that had failed
-
• #1286
Something happened to him before RttR 2017 - didn't he have a hub shipped to him? Can't find any info.

Bloody batteries...

You picked the wrong stubborn idiot to argue with.
I'm going to run batteries only on TCR this year after arguing with you about it for months just to wind you up. :D

You posted in the RttR thread something about a courier losing his wheel. What was broken on it though?
-
• #1291
Yeah was his front hub it was less than 24 hours before starting I’m sure but could be wrong on time frames. That was what held up his start lack of dynamo.
-
• #1292
Yeah dynamo. No shortage of rear disc hubs in Adelaide I’m sure but no SPs it seems

Strange that he didn't just proceed with one of those 'battery pack' things I've heard so much about recently. Are there not many powerpoints in rural WA?

Horses for courses, I guess. My experience was that in rural WA they are pretty much concentrated along the Eyre Highway

Why was he using IPWR route for RttR? No wonder he quit...

Back to the race.
Stephane has been passed by Dan as he sleeps. Abdullah's lead up to 250km -
• #1298
Stephane going again, back up to third
Abdullah's lead almost 400 km!What daily distances did Kristof do last year? I must look it up and compare.

Just checked Facebook and Stephane says the problem is that his phone battery is not holding much chrge and he can't race without iphone. So he is touring!

Just made it into South Australia. Won’t make it to Nullarbor Roadhouse before it closes tonight. It’s 188km away, next one is another 144km. I’m stocking up at Border Village with enough food and water to bridge the entire gap. So if I get to Nullarbor and feel energetic/ aggressive then I will be able to continue. Knee still swollen though. Isn’t that bad once it’s warmed up after 10km or so, but stiffens up when stopped. Big sleep last night. Just need to survive to Adelaide and keep Pawel in my sights.
Ha!
