  • Have we reached peak gravel already?

  • Dude, get with it...it's Gravé now.

  • Eh, maybe this is the new normal for drop bar bikes. Instead of calling these things large-clearance road bikes, aero road machines will be considered aggressive / small-clearance / race.

  • We need a thread for aggroad bikes thenz

  • Someone got to change the topic name to Grave instead of Gravel

  • 2.3 tyres (650b 60mm) is just about the max on the rear of this Arkose.

  • That looks fucking supreme man. Do miss the Arkose. It felt great on 650's. Happy with the double? Not considering a 1x setup? Also, does it feel a bit jittery over rough ground on the inline post? Did for me a bit, but made it more fun for some reason.

  • 48/32 is a decent range, I'm keeping it for now, as the 32/34 combo may prove useful off road.

2.3 is just about too much as tyres flex likely to rub on the chainstay, luckily there's a G-One Speed in 2.0 instead which will be a lots better.

Felt like a road-going version of a fat bike, G-One Speed is awesome, so much nicer on the road than the standard G-One, haven't tried it off road yet.

seatpost is fine, it's standard own brand one, gonna source a 46cm Cowbell handlebar.

  • Fair fair. I do think 48/32 needs be far more common for everyday use.

G-one speeds are magical. On tubeless, I've used them on really sharp coastal rocks (upped pressure a bit) and they flew. Minor cuts, but not a single pinch or fail. Anything a bit sandy and they do skitter a bit though.
    What pressure you running?
I'd needs a new bike to use them again though. Only using the 26" monsteur these days.

  • i've raced g-one speeds in 30mm and 35mm (on a 21mm iw rim) on two occasions with good results (one on shit tarmac and one on 70% tarmac 30% gravel). really great for these applications and no flats despite some rough, fast descents. i've also used the 35mm as my winter tire in the city and it has survived with some cuts but no flats.

the normal g-one ar in 38mm has also been faultless as a gravel racing, long ride to gravel, and commuting tire.

  • Carbon forks with anything cage mounts sound nice, hoping they'll sell the frameset alone as well.

  • Haven't used the 35's, but on 21mm rim, I imagine they'd be bloody well amazing. As far as I'm concerned, it is the tyre of the moment. Everything about it is just spot on for near enough all uses.

  • word. i've just come across a set of enve 4.5 ar disc wheels (new for a mere $1600usd!) which i'll mount the 30mm speeds on :D

  • Do update. What bike are you using them on?

  • will do. for now they will go on my jamis renegade for brevets, some mixed surface races, and hopefully steens-mazama later this year. i think eventually i'd like to find an aero frame that will clear them with 28mm pro ones, but i don't think that exists yet. aeroad probs doesn't clear it and the whole 1x only thing on the strada is meh imo.

  • Hey BN it's either Gravèl or Gravé

  • Amazing tyres, seem to come with a free tailwind. Been impressed by the 2.35s but want the 2.0s as the potential perfect fat-ish road tyre.

  • thats confidence inspiring .. missus commutes on them, whenver she lets me borrow the bike it flies and its a Surly !

  • Gravél ? What is this?

‘Arkose gnarmac, the Gravé thread.’ Do it!

  • But does it float? Thames commute potential.

  • Fair fair. I do think 48/32 needs be far more common for everyday use.

With a 11-28 cassette, it make for a great road gearing with a closer ratio between each cog, and the only time you might miss the 50 or 52t chainring is when racing and/or going down alpine road.

With a 11-36 cassette, it turn the 32t chainring into an MTB gearing yet kept the 48t as a "1x11" road gearing (with similar jump to an old 8 speed cassette).
Specialized made the right move in choosing to fit an MTB derailleur hanger on their Sequoia to allow the 105 derailleur to work with a 11-36t cassette.

Are you reading this James? maybe put a longer hanger on the 2019 Arkose??

  • New 2018 Sequoia colourway look good;

The Elite model share a similar colour to the last year Expert.

Still struggling to jusified getting a Sequoia over the Arkose as it is £400 more and heavier

  • Can't lie, that's a good looking bike.
