that is nonsense. the things get ridden over giant fucking paving stones at roubaix and flanders, and the tests they put those frames through should ensure that you can ride them on a basically endless array of poor surfaces without failure.

If my memory serves me correctly, Matt Chester, titanium craftsman, and one builder who was making 'gravel' bikes at least a decade before anyone coined the term had a 'journeyman' model in his small range of frames.
