Had a look at this but it suggested it wouldn’t give me a number at the end. How does one work it out?

I think they give you the good news via email.

Mine came out about 20w lower than previously estimated. I should have doubled the 15min warmup I gave myself :/
-

Ah I see. Thanks.
I’ll give it a blast but suspect I’ll find it hard to accurately negotiate all those steps without a trainer that has an ERG mode. My power graph is normally wobbly as fuck even with smoothing on.

I did an 8 min test then the Ramp x on consecutive days last week. Came out within 3W of each other. Ramp test was much better for me because I always mess up the pacing on the 8 min test and struggle to find the right gear when it switches from erg mode.

• #907
If you always mess up the 8min and the ramp test was close to the 8min, how do you know the ramp test isn't flawed?

I'm glad this isn't just me
-

I don’t, I’m just trusting people that know more than I do. All I know is that the ramp test helps eliminate most human errors.

TrainingPeaks does a good job of smoothing it out for reassurance...

Never met one.
That was a joke.
Obviously I met one or two over the years... I just had them "Musked".

Anyone use the Trainerroad workout creator? I didn't know it existed. I was going to set an ERG file up for Computrainer but perhaps I should give TR a crack?
Presume you can use the Creator without a turbo attached?
-
• #914
I've used it quite a bit, mostly modifying other workouts (it's a bit clunky sometimes and creating them from scratch can be a pain). It gives you access to their whole library of workouts so I just find a suitable one to use as a start point and then tweak it. I've never used it starting from other files though (ERG or MRC).
-
• #915
Ah, that sounds useful. I basically stop using TR when I start doing stuff like 2x20 because I can control them easily enough from the Computrainer panel and TR becomes pointless but for more complicated stuff it'd be nice to have the timers that TR provides (similar to ERG files but with less text file editing).

Do you use the same login as TR? Or did you have to create a separate account for the custom workout editor?
-
• #917
Pretty sure you just login with your username and it automatically publishes them to your custom workouts.

In which case I feel justified raising a bug with their support guys.
My suspicion is they're using poor email validation which is preventing my email address (with a + in it) from working. It's probably Adobe's fault...
-
• #919
Their support guys are usually very good. Always respond quickly.
I think there’s an LFGSS club with some custom workouts in there. You might find my shoddily created workouts if you’re lucky.

If anyone else find themselves in my situation and needs to manually uninstall an ancient version of Adobe AIR before the new one will install, this worked:

Ok, so you apparently have a username AND an email address that can be used to login to TR and Workout Creator.
So, I just use my username, rather than my email address and I can now login to Workout Creator.
Yay!
Pity I already used Racermate to create the workout, but perhaps I can now use this (https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201944204-Creating-a-Workout-from-an-ERG-or-MRC-File) to import it into TR?

I have a free month to give away, only for people who don't already have an account. PM me if you want it.

Did a ramp test this morning, found it much easier to do than the 20 minute or 8 minute tests. Pretty sure my FTP is way overestimated off the back of it though.
20 minute test estimates 332W
8 minute test estimates 328w
Ramp test estimates 370w -
• #924
Looks like they've got some maths to do on that test then.
-
• #925
Yeah as I'm definitely not more powerful than when I did my last tests. The only other possible explanation is that I was horrendous at pacing my previous efforts and as the ramp test takes out pacing issues I achieved a higher score. Still feel it is definitely on the high side though!
Did your FTP come out significantly higher or lower?
