My rim's 38mm too. Your disc setup means no brakes for the rim to rub on, but I'd go for more spokes than 24.

Ive just ordered myself a pair of hub

This is my current thinking for the dynamo set up for the new beik. Is there a better wiring option? I did think of putting the cache before the light but the AXA Luxx70 has a standing light (4 minutes) so I assume it has a small cache battery built in. And I'm assuming the the inbuilt cache won't work with the inbuilt USB as it's before the light in the schematic (pass-through USB when nothing is plugged in).

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Looks alright. I'd be interested in hearing about the performance of the axa70, both in terms of lighting and charging.

Otherwise what @AlfredIV says, and you can get a light that doesn't do charging.

Edit: you may also go for a simple usb power pack that you charge on the light/dyno and then use to charge other stuff. Admittedly the faff factor is greater. I'd also be interested in learning about power packs that can charge stuff and be charged at the same time :)

AXA Luxx70

I know the Supernova rear is only designed to work off the front light output from a Supernova (someone else will chime in about it being DC when they're normally AC or vice versa). Are you sure the Supernova rear will run off that AXA light?

Yeah the supernova rear can actually run off any front light; but with anything else than a supernova front light you don't get standlight.

I'm not totally decided on the rear light and not having to stand light is a deal breaker. I like the supernova as it would be very neat with a braze on and internal cabling. I'm guessing that AXA will sell a complimentary rear light that can be seat post mounted.

I consider the standlight pretty important. Does that mean you roll up to traffic lights and then suddenly disappear from view if you use another light? If that's the case I'd definitely reconsider my choices @Lanterne_Rouge

As I said not have a stand light is a deal breaker. It seems AXA don't have a nice one.

That's of course a compromise that you choose to make or not. In my case I didn't know about it beforehand but still kept the light as it's my rando bike and as such it's mostly moving (as opposed to a commuter bike that's more often stopped at lights etc).

@Lanterne_Rouge have a look at seculas as well. There's a stay mounted and mudguard mounted option. If you have a rack the b+m topline is a no-brainer.

The SON Schmidth rear lights are a nice alternative to the Supernova ones

I should think that all rear lights approved for the german traffic regulations would provide stand light with any front light. Busch und Müller make some nice looking ones.

What's the people's method of choice to make a cable stick underneath a mudguard, when routing to a guard-mounted light?

I've never done it but what about those Di2 external cable guides/strips?

That's a very tidy solution.

They're in my mind because the Tripster I've got coming doesn't have a hollow chainstay all the way along its length so the Di2 cable would have to be run externally and I remember these from the original Di2 setup days.

@spotter put me onto those and I used them for dynamo runs across my frame. Under a mudguard? Not so sure unless you had good clearance as they do stand quite proud. Long term I would be concerned about their adhesion to the guard due to grit/water/squirrels. Most solutions I have seen elsewhere for running under mudguards tends to be hot glue gun / airfix glue based solutions that permafix the wire.

top tip for using these - clean your frame thoroughly, then dry and it heat the frame up with a hairdryer before applying.

So, got a sweet deal on a Supernova E3 Pro 2 in black from Bikester. Down to £106 on sale then a further £10.00 off with a new customer discount. Hoping it hasn't been mislabelled and isn't the front light only version. Does mention rear light compatability. Couldn't seem to find it cheaper than £140 in the UK. Too good to be true? Dunno but watch this space.

Why would it include the rear light? It says "Front Light".

Or you mean, compatible with a rear light?
