  • This is where I am. Very tempted to ask for the refund now but the other options don’t seem that appealing.

    £499 for a Garmin 1030? Jesus.

True, but for me the point of buying a Karoo was to avoid the PITA associated with still using Garmins. The Karoo already feels like a PITA, and I haven't even got it yet.

Half a bag of sand for the privilege of being a beta tester on a flakey bag of crap. Yay. I'll take two.

  • There's still a few problems with the Wahoo. The map is nowhere near as useful as a Garmin for viewing and it's impossible to generate a new route without mobile data/internet (you can't even upload a gpx to it via bluetooth offline, for some reason it still needs to be connected to the internet)

  • No route options on wahoo annoys me. Tried to get home using it at christmas and 2 minutes into the route it told me to go onto a bridle path which was actually a grass field. Also the map rotates when you change direction which is great but only when following a route. If just riding without route, the map stays locked to north facing so if you're going south you can't see shit. On mine at least

  • This makes it useless for TCR where you often have to re-route quickly on the fly.

  • yes its not perfect but the entry point is relatively cheaper for 'full features', they are working on it quite transparently and it doesn't feel like they are making the consumers pay for beta test

its still useless for @hippy but thats an edge case ;)

  • You can select the “Always Rotate Map” option in the app for the map rotation to follow the direction of travel with no route set.

  • Hoped there’d be an option, too lazy to look. Why wouldn’t you want it to rotate?

  • Currently $300 (if you sign up for the pre-order pricing) plus $75 'taxes' - which I believe covers import duty/VAT etc. So about £270 all in. So expensive, but not insanely so considering it's feature set and more importantly it's potential.

Allegedly the pre order price will go up to the full retail price if $500 as soon as they start shipping units, so it might not be long if you want to jump on the bandwagon. I'm a little torn, like a few have said, I don't really want to be a beta tester, but I can also see the huge potential of this device, it could totally trounce everything that's come before.

Really tempted to bang it on the plastic at this point and return it if it isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Emphasis on 'allegedly'. I share your scepticism.

  • Quite. There does seem to be some ambiguity if the price will change 1. when they start shipping units to customers who ordered them way back when (i.e. hopefully soon) or 2. when they catch up and get to the stage where they're 'shipping to order' (or potentially option 3. not at all...)

Considering where it is in the market place, $300 puts it in line with the 520/820 and a a bit more - although not insanely more - than Wahoos offerings, if it goes upto $500 that changes things significantly.

  • So I finally just got my shipping email for my Karoo! Karoohoo!!!
    Not long now!!! (again)

  • Congratulations, you get to start the Karoo users thread!

  • The news about the lack of any kind of noise notification has spoiled things a bit for me, but otherwise I'm genuinely excited for this one!
Hopefully the mapping will be clear and accurate enough to render the beeps unnecessary.

  • Did you get an option to change delivery address? I got mine through a friend in NY, but he is away for 2 months so will have to have it delivered elsewhere.

  • Yeah they show the original address and if you're still OK with it you do nothing, otherwise you email them back and you can change it.

  • Screw it, I went balls deep and ordered, let's see what happens. They do have a 45 day returns policy, admittedly you have to get it back to the US but I'd rather be £10-20 down than stuck with a unit I don't want if I decide to return it.

Will be interesting to see how long I have to wait as obviously I'll be at the back of the que but hopefully if they've actually started shipping units it shouldn't be that long.

Give us a bit of a review with a decent load of pics (and a video of turn by turn etc. if possible) when it arrives! If you'd be so kind.

  • looks good, what's the catch? Can't find many reviews out there.

  • It’s ipad sized

  • Well, it seems to be working well at recording all the data stuff I have, like power meter, HR, cadence.

But, the only maps I can find and load are 8 tiles of Nicaragua - which is less than ideal.
