  • Fuckin’ hell

  • Yeah I didn't disagree with him. I'm talking about what d0cA said

  • I'd lead them home and they can take the rest of bikes if that was the choice offered.

It's not. You get no choice and by the looks of it, no opportunity to do anything about it. It's splash and dash.

  • And not the good, pre-season yentzing kind

  • Will be vigilant on Q1! Shit. And always ride the clunker ;)

Never Ever seen bike plod on Q1. Ever.

  • The scary thing is that a lot of the time, they use a lucozade bottle or similar and sometimes don't even have acid in it, the threat is enough. That way, if the plod do actually catch em, it's only lucozade......double bluffing cunts.

I now have a lovely old lignum vitae truncheon velcro'd to the Jones bars.....

  • I now have a lovely old lignum vitae truncheon velcro'd to the Jones bars.....

For srs? You'll be the one getting nicked.

  • mass-raid-on-londons-flagship-apple-store-with-gangs-stealing-thousands-of-pounds-of-iphones

    So - 2 iphones then...

  • Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning either scenario - I think it's wrong to snatch phones or bikes or anything and then ride off, and I particularly think it's wrong to throw acid at someone else or injure them in anyway.

What I am saying is that prevention is better cure. That is, I think in the bigger picture, it would be better to focus energies on trying to improve the lot of everyone so that some people are not tempted into doing these acts in the first place. And the way to do that, I think, is not by increasing punishment ("afterwards") but by trying to find opportunities ("beforehand").

  • But then see replies to your other post which suggest these kids can be earning a couple grand a week from doing this. There's not any opportunities you can offer that will deter them from that.

  • ^^ This is total bollocks

  • Well, not total bollocks - you need both a strategy for keeping the social contract inclusive as possible and tactics for dealing with folks who voluntarily opt out and prey on society.

    Carrot and stick.

It's probably all to do with edumacation, as is so much.

  • But then you'll still have to deal with the massive dickheads* who, despite the cornucopia of opportunity not to live a life of misery you present them with, decide mopeds + acid attacks are a good idea. There's always some. Dickheads.

    * or poor deprived urchins, who knows

  • I'm not having that, there is literally no way to condone this.

As posted above, they're not stealing a loaf of bread to feed themselves.

  • v quiet there some times

Bladdyell, this has hit home with a chill...used Q1 for a good while before changing my route about six months ago and remember thinking how pleasant it was compared to OKR - often ended up down there after the peak evening rush too.

    Bastards. Absolute bastards.

  • I'm not condoning it either.

  • I knew I'd get blasted for saying "fine" - I absolutely do not think it's fine to steal anything. But what I mean is that there is a distinction to be made between a non-violent phone-snatching that's over in a few seconds and an acid attack. In the former case, yes, perhaps those crimes would stop if there was no longer an economic justification and the perpetrators had better opportunities. In the second case, no - those people are sickos and are doing it because they like hurting others. Improving their prospects won't stop those crimes.

  • Mate was sat with his gf in her car Sunday night eating some food, both front doors were opened by guys in balaclavas shouting at them to get out. Hand in one pocket, don't even need to show a weapon, no-one wants the risk of a faceful of sulphuric. They can get the car without a fight. Acid has changed the rules. As long as it's this easy, it's only going to increase.

  • Christ, where was that?

  • christ. this is on my route to and from work. always thought it was very safe. awful stuff.

  • Fucksake after you said the other day too that you were worried. Cunts, hope they get run over by a bus.

  • Failure to deal with this by the Police for whatever reason is only going to embolden the fuckingassholes doing this. I despair.

  • Yeah you can condone this at all, sell drugs by all means again I dont condone this but they have started stealing everyday joe publics kit in broad daylight and there seems to be fuck all happening to them so they will continue and continue till someone puts up a fight and kills them and the person who does that will get the book thrown at them but the police. Its fucked up I'm so glad I'm not in london now, really scary place to be.

  • Saw a gang of 2x pillioned mopeds with balaclavas riding erratically at Clapham South about 4 weeks ago. Tweeted the local plod, result – nothing, not even an acknowledgement.

  • Wasn't the official advice that whenever you see pillioned mopeds acting suspiciously, to call 999?
At least 101. Twitter is not the place to report things to the police
