Can you use vegetarian suet I guess?

• #654
Yep. On sale on the same shelf I recall.

That looks amazing. Definitely going to try this.

I might try making some pies but doing a spin on those Portuguese custard tarts - puff pastry, open topped...
-
• #658
What? Topped with custard? Register that idea right now!
-
• #659
I like them really fucking hot with a scoop - fuck it, two scoops - of vanilla ice cream.
-
• #660
I reckon if you like ice cream with a hot pudding you're probably a right wrong'un.
Oh, it's common alright - but when I'm in charge you degenerates will be first up against the wall. Whether you appreciate mince pies or not.

I just ate 4 m&s all butter mince pies.
No-one else wanted one.

My wife's away with work for a couple of days. My teenager at home hates...I mean hates....mince pies. So my tart, featured earlier in this thread, has been perched on the kitchen top. Saying 'just a slice, go on, a sliver even. You know you want to' so I've taken control and frozen half of it. But the other half, well quarter, is behaving like one of those ladies in a window in red light Amsterdam. The real challenge, for this is only a taster tart, is the large kilner jar brimful of hand-stirred, chunky, spicy mincemeat patiently waiting it's turn to pair off with crispy, sweet, golden pastry cases. Is there a mince pie equivalent of AA?

Another idea... Mince pie gyoza...
-
• #664
Fuck yeehah.

• #665
Soften a bit of vanilla ice cream, open that kilner jar, mix into ice cream and re-freeze. You know - just for something to do while the mrs is away.

Traditionalists look away now:
Don't know who is most to blame;
Aldi for commissioning them,
Mrs. M for buying them,
Me, for eating two last night, cold, no topping.

No need to justify yourself in this thread... #allthepies 😀

That's genius!

Is nothing sacred....?

Had my first one from Greggs this afternoon. Just as good as I remember from last year. Had to give 2 away to the neighbours to avoid scoffing all 6 in a row.

It's not even December people!
-
• #673
Apparently not.
Perhaps those brexhitters got it right,
German firms coming over here,
using UK food technologists,
to follow the 1st rule of UK product development; 'add chocolate',
and,
then doubling down by pretending it is a chocolate orange 'improved' mince pie.How would Germans like it if we 'improved' Stollen cakes by co-extruding the marzipan with a tube of (Polish-manufactured) creme egg?

Lidl's own-brand Favorina 12-pack.
CAN I GET A REWIND?!

Why did I click on this thread? It's 8am and I'm sat here in my pants jonesing for mince pies. Will I stay strong until December? Seems unlikely.
What's the white bits, suet?
