  • I used to use Brentacre in the past but several people i know use places like Adrian Flux, Sky.

I have used REIS more recently until i took the car off the road for a rebuild

  • Collected the 850 this morning, apparently the email I received is from the general manager of the dealership, but he wasn't in so I didn't get to speak to him.

    His offer remains a mystery!

  • @Fixedwheelnut @mcmyk thanks both! Ended up ringing around and got it down to 1k, will give those extra ones a call too see if I can get it down any more.

  • This morning I dropped the Eunos off at a local garage for them to do fit a new cambelt, waterpump and thermostat housing. I've watched all the how to videos and think I'd be okay doing the work but don't have a garage to keep out of the rain and would have to wait for all the parts. Bit gutted as I've done everything myself so far but it's just not convenient at the moment. Going the DIY route I'd save £140 on labour but for me it would be more about the sense of accomplishment. I am disappoint etc.

  • worth noting, if there is an owners club for said car and you're a member, some of these companies will do you a further discount

  • @timbre

I used Keith Michaels for my modded Subaru and was always very competitive. In fact they currently arrange insurance for all my cars. My contact there is Gary Moulson.

  • I would pass on that I think.

  • Scaffolders motor. 😎

  • Half the day under the MX5 yesterday was enough, it got fucking cold. As I lay on my back trying to wrestle the exhaust out with rusty flakes filling my face and mouth, I actually thought I'd rather be scraping seam sealer off @BRM 's racecar shell, at least I can stand up to do that.

  • Know that feeling. A couple weeks back was under the car Hammeriting the front of the chassis legs and the cold evil wind blew some right onto my eye. Being so thick i was able to pull it out in one stringy blob - bit distressing. Haven't been under the car since.

  • Just booked in the saab for a major service. New timing- and auxiliary belt, new diesel filter, oil and filter change.

This fucking saab has gone from a financially sensible buy to a money pit. On the other hand it'll have everything done so should be good for a good couple of years.

    I feel like Dammit.

  • is that at a specialist saab place?

  • fucking saab
    money pit

Same goes for any old car I suppose but mine was the same. Finally got rid of it before the gearbox gave up. Don't do a Dammit though, just keep it running reasonably well. It's not worth it.

The Volvo repair centre called me today saying they 'might take a look at our car on Friday'. Bastards. Otoh both clutch & gearbox are defo covered by insurance so shouldn't be too expensive. Maybe.

  • No, local indie. Nice guy and cheapest around. It might end up costing less, but I'm bracing for a big bill

  • I'm trying to keep things sensible but I can't really find anything on the service schedule that I dare to skip. Possibly the cabin air filter, but that's peanuts compared to the rest

  • Got a few more jobs to do, well quite a few more jobs.

I'm still struggling to find someone who can explain to me my issue. I have moved the steering rack to the central position by counting steering wheel turns lock to lock and working out the middle. It's in the middle and the steering wheel is straight on the rack. The wheels aren't straight however, they're toed out and in but the track rod ends are at max adjustment on each side in the direction they need to be adjusted. I don't understand wtf is going on.

  • As in one wheel is toe out and the other is toe in with the rack in the neutral position?

  • Obviously not a permanent solution but can you centre the wheels at least, then refit the steering wheel so straight does actually go straight?

  • I think that's possible but I'd end up with more lock one way than the other

  • Worst case if you're driving it somewhere to be fixed I'd have thought it would get you there. How bad is it?

  • Yeah, obviously follow service schedule. Hardly Dammit level :)
