  • @31trum has been living in Horsham for a while now and we miss him much, which is why we ride to visit him. The plan is to do this next Sunday (8th October). I suggest we meet at the Coach & Horses at 10am for a prompt departure so we make it to Horsham for lunch. The ride should take about two and a half hours and we'll finish at a local pub. Train back later in the day.

All welcome, as even if you don't know Murtle, you obviously have to meet him.

The route will be fixed-friendly except for one climb (Portnalls Road, which is not too bad) and one long and fast descent (Reigate Hill). Everything else will be very flat.

Hope to see you on the ride!

  • In, assuming this date works for a few others!

  • I need to be back in Kew by about 6pm, but it should be possible to get a drink in first :)

  • Sweet. I'm from Horsham and have met @31trum selling his wares.

    Hangover pending, I'm in.

  • Sounds ace. I'll investigate the possibility.

  • What's the route? It seems that leaving at 11am for a 40 mile ride doesn't make "arriving for lunch" that likely...

  • Would love to do this ride, and see murtle. But out of town for mums 70

  • Bring her along?

  • I have the route at 32 miles, which I thought we'd be able to do in two hours and a bit, punctures permitting. Happy to leave at 10 if people prefer that?

  • You'll be missed (though not by your mum).

  • 32 miles sounds good.

I'd prefer earlier departure but happy to roll with consensus.

  • Damn! We'll be out of town next weekend. Have fun!

  • Ah boo.

  • I'm happy with earlier, if others are.
    C&H isn't open until 12 anyway.
    @Oliver Schick?

  • I'd be perfectly happy with a 10am start. I only put 11 to give myself people more time to get out of bed.

  • This is a ride that a few years back I would have never missed.

Oliver's routes and rides are always fun in a way or another. Plus, what a lovely bunch in here..

Anyway, Oliver, nowadays I'm all over to leather rather than lycra, and that take predominance on everything, it's so bloody addictive. Maybe one day, if you're up, I take you on my back so that you can have a taste of it.

But for a moment I thought seriously to join...

  • Been off the bike since last December due to a bad elbow. L&W has been traveling a lot. Neither of us can do this sadly.

  • You don't have to wear lycra, Marco, we won't be caning it. It'll be a relaxed, lazy Sunday ride.

Hope to see you again sometime even if you don't make this one.

  • Get better ... er, soon. Hope it clears up.

(You're just afraid Ben will drop you and you'll consequently lose all parental authority. :) )

  • 10am works for me too... kinda perfect, gives me more time to enjoy all of your company and have a pub lunch, etc :)

  • OK, great, I'll change it to 10.

  • My club have their hill climb this Sunday - not my kinda thing, so this sounds spiffing. (Get more miles in too)

  • I'm trying to keep the option open, but it's looking unlikely. Sorry. Last time we did this was a great day.

  • Olive Branch, Horsham, seems like a good pub to meet. Quite a large patio/garden around the back to lock up etc...
Lemme know what sort time ETA.

    See you tomorrow. x
