Time for full refund from Amazon and a Pixel!
Pretty impressed that Amazon are refunding after a year and a half...
-
• #19104
I would hope that it came with a 2-year manufacturers guarantee.
(Quite how mobile phones do not carry the EU 6-year electrical goods Consumer protection, I have yet to have adequately explained to me). -

Result! You waiting for the new Pixel or just grabbing the current one?

It’s a porn browser. Works well enough.

Yeah, although I kind of planned it - when my old phone broke Amazon were great too so I bought from them again just in case. Still, wasn't expecting a full refund.
I can't really wait (no backup phone) and the Pixel XL is £449 at CPW so I'm just going to buy it this afternoon I think. I'd rather buy it from Amazon given their customer service but it's £75 more there. At least I can go into CPW and @spotter has had no problem returning boot looping Pixels to them so that's kinda reassuring!

Absolutely fucked off that I can't forward a mail to a contacts group on my phone.
It's Draconian.
-
• #19110
I can't even copy and paste a whole host of addresses out of an email that initiate from the contact group "send email" menu action.
If I could do that I would at least have a workaround.
This is bonkers.

For a ridiculous set of reasons I'm trying to set up an ancient gt-s5830i just for whatsapp after stupidly doing a factory reset.
Long shot but I don't suppose anyone could help?
Issue: When I try and login to my google account it won't log in.
- it is connected to wifi
- my google account isn't an @gmail
it says;
you need to link a Gmail account with this phone.
you already have a gmail username (my not@gmail.com) associated wiht this account, but it is not currently active.
Touch next to re-activate this username and use it with your phone
or if you want to use a different account, press the back button and sign in with a different account.Once I click next it says;
a problem occurred while communicating with google servers.
The original phone was / is locked on 02.
My thinking is that it's just too old and the OG bloatwear is stopping it. My thought is whether I can somehow properly wipe it and reinstall new software on it to allow me to log in.
Any ideas welcome.

Have you got the correct time set on the phone. Having the wrong time seems to screw up the connection to google I've found before. You may also need to flash the latest GApps but not sure if that will make a difference.

Cheers. I will try that.
I found this which depressingly seems to imply whatsapp may not work:

Ah sorry, already on eBay. I just couldn’t get along with the size, the lagginess and Netflix not working. Really don’t get the hype around these things.

My Lenovo S860 has decided it no longer likes the password to decrypt my phone.
This happened a while ago - afte restart it wouldn't accept the password for many many tries, but eventually would. I tried to never let it shut down, but it crashed, and now won't accept the password ever. It is definitely the right password.I don't care about the data on the phone, so guess I need to format and reimage? Is this even possible if part of the storage is encrypted?
I've learned not to encrypt my phone - I don't even have anything on there worth hiding.

Last gasp effort, not holding out much hope. Plugged my phone into the computer via usb and cut and pasted some photos from the internal memory to the SD card (yeah yeah I know all too well I should have copied and pasted then deleted the source files) left it doing that for a few hours and assumed (fail #2) when I returned all had gone well and unplugged my phone. Photos are neither in internal memory or on the sd card :( Recuva hasn't found them on the computer and diskdigger hasn't found them on the phone and obviously these days you can't usb mass storage your phone to let Recuva try finding them on the phone. I'm not rooted and doing so would wipe the phone which doesn't really help matters. Do I just have to accept they're gone?

Cracked the screen on my Moto g (3rd gen).
It looks like it'll be more than half the price of the phone to fix. What's out there for £100?
Is there a dumb phone with citymapper and WhatsApp and a camera yet? I know that's not the point of a dumb phone. But they're the only things I really use.

Xiaomi redmi something will suit.
Ive got the newest moto G. It's very annoying using maps as it doesn't have a compass.
Nokia 3 could be okay if you want to get it today.

Jumped on the cheap Pixel XL bandwagon. It's lurvely.
Noticeable upgrade in zippiness from my Nexus 6P, and nicer to hold. Camera is indeed wonderful, and battery life seems good so far, which were my main concerns upgrading. Also the first time I've felt like I can stick with the default launcher, and not faff about with Nova.
Shame about the speakers though, and it does look a bit more "generic smartphone". As far as Oreo goes, I don't like this "let's put background shapes on all the icons" bollocks, and that the Do Not Disturb options are a bit more buried. And had to install an app to get rid of all the irritating "running in the background" notifications.

Has anyone else here got a standard Pixel? I've a question about the speakers.

Yep. Shoot.
Anybody tried Firefox Focus?
I've just received a prompt.
Can I really browse without leaving a trace?
