  • It doesn't have to be widespread. If you race with a motor, you never race again. Done.

  • 1?

    That poor girl in CX.

  • That "poor" cheat fucked off out of the sport. Good.

  • Although possibly not the people that put the motor in the bike, unless you reckon she did it herself.

  • Well she didn't do it all herself did she.

I say poor as she was young and impressionable. And we all make mistakes. Especially when young.

  • Does the installer matter?

  • Who gives a fuck.

"Hey hippy, I've put a motor in your bike for this race, just push this button"
    "Fuck off"

But no, she raced on it. Fuck her and her cheating scum family.

  • I thought you didn't drink on work days!

I made so many mistakes as a kid, I have some compassion.

  • I agree, but she got a 7 year ban, her father, who facilitated the cheating, walked away scot free and can still work in the sport.

Even so, minor issue that isn't important unless someone can prove it is widespread.

  • And Greg Lemond isn't a credible source.

  • That's not actually what happened. He crashed on the descent before the Angliru, which they knew would be dangerous beforehand and he was protesting that. Not that anyone noticed.

I was about to say this. The organisers had pretty much deliberately planned the carnage which happened on that wet descent, knowing what happened when the Vuleta previously went down it (lots of crashes and broken bones). In Millar's book (I've not heard the podcast) he explains how they'd put 2m high barriers along some of the course and police to stop fans helping the riders. The moment when Millar first lost it was when he saw a policeman pin a fan who had somehow got through against these barriers by pushing his arm against the fans neck. As Andy says that was what led to the protest, not it being too steep (he'd already given up on the race after crashing and having his bike run over by a team car).

  • Mistake is missing your start time or dropping a bidon in your spokes, not riding a Suzuki in a 'cross race.

  • her father, who facilitated the cheating, walked away scot free and can still work in the sport.

If they can prove it, life ban too.

  • Well the assumption is in the case of motor-doping it can't just been the lone cheat, a number of people have to be complicit.

  • Yeah, plus I doubt it was her idea. Her father on the other hand....

  • If they can be named and they're involved ban them. If the rider won't name them or there's not enough evidence then like normal they get away with it.

    It's not complicated.

There's no "oh it could've been contaminated" argument with a fucking motor on your bicycle.

  • And we are back to my point about BC. Irrespective of whether you think Lauren was brave or stupid for riding 8km with a fucked up leg, it's the coaches that need to set an example, and pull her out

  • Did riding 8k with a cut up leg cause issues above and beyond what not riding the 8k would've caused?

  • I found it completely disgusting that that motor doped with a human. Ban them all, I say.

  • I'm not disagreeing. If you want to eliminate it you need to rip it out roots and all, so the shady mechanics and teams encouraging/tolerating it happening.

  • Probably dripped some extra claret everywhere

  • No, I think it's her choice. She's an adult.

    It was only a cut.

  • Basically that kind of deep laceration needs immediate immobilisation to mitigate the risk of: haemorrhaging, infections, and the build up of deep scar tissue - which would need a lot of physio and probably further operations to be removed. But fuck it, I never made a single poor decision when I was 18

  • tis but a scratch!

She's not qualified to decide if she can ride on after such an injury - but someone on the team will have been. Maybe they ok'd it. Maybe not.

Bet whoever tended to it was livid.

  • But chicks dig scars
