Is it my leg or someone else's leg? If it's my leg and the same distance in the same event I'd ride.
If it was someone else's it would depend on who they were, how far, what event it was and how they reacted to me telling them to stop.

I think if I got the chance to ride at the World Championships, it would take more than road rash to stop me.
Whether that would be the right decision I don't know, but I doubt anyone in the following car had the right level of medical knowledge to make the best decision either.

I see your point, but that is a little more than road rash!

Didn't know this, cheeky!
'2005 – Madrid
After accepting €2,500 each to work on the front for the Italians during the race’s early stages, British duo Tom Southam and Charly Wegelius were caught up in controversy. Team manager John Herety was forced to resign and the pair was banned for life from the national team.'https://rouleur.cc/editorial/10-world-championship-controversies/

I've heard the real figure was a fair bit more than that, but, luckily for him, Tom got to rewrite history.
-
• #14057
Yeah, it's in Wegelius' book. It's in the context of a piss poor UK cycling setup and explained as an attempt to help their pro careers on the continent.

They are professionals, why should they work hard for the nominated leader on the day, Roger Hammond in this case, if he's not going to pay them?
I didn't see a lot of holier than thou British cycling fans complaining when Konstantin Sioutsou rode for Team GB at the London Olympics.

I can understand why. Sure they needed the money. Cycling ain't exactly well paid.

So... disc brakes.
"Dev suffered an injury to his right leg while training for the upcoming Cyclocross season in Sacramento. Another cyclist crashed in front of Devin causing him to flip over his handlebars. Devin's right leg landed on the other cyclist's front disc brake. The brake sliced through tissue, muscle and damaged the meniscus. Fortunately, there are no fractures but the healing will take some time before Dev can return to competing as a cyclist."

Why doesn't discs have round edges?

That's one of the things the CPA is demanding before they'll fully accept them in the pro peloton.

Seems 1 by 11 is joining the peloton next year:

I can't see how they will sort the gearing for any mountain stages.

I don't know the severity of the injury and I am not a doctor, but it sure looked grim and any open wound like that is presumably prone to infection, which does raise the question of whether carrying on is a good idea.
More broadly this is worth placing within the context that traditionally cycling as a sport is pretty shit at looking after the welfare of its riders. Sure, maybe she decided to carry on herself but that's a bit like saying the days of Cofidis riders being free to handle their own 'preparation' were AOK.

Personally I like 3T's current offerings but talking of Cofidis, they tried single ring (with no FD) once for TT's. Everyone's chain fell off so I hope they have a chain catcher...
-
• #14073
If only they'd been a bit more subtle i.e. by not pulling on the front for mile after mile.
Wegelius' book is a really good read. Gives a good insight into some of the shitty ways pros get treated by their teams.
-
• #14074
The irony being that both Wegelius and Southam, who was the ghostwriter, now work for Vaughters, who has a terrible reputation for treating riders badly when he doesn't want to retain them.

Hasn't someone (Tony Martin?) been riding a single front ring at current year GT's TT stage? It was discussed at LFGSS as well, and everyone concluded it was more chainline reasons rather than anything else. However, if it was Martin indeed, I can see why his chain did not fall off...
Would you want someone you cared about to ride with a gash like that in your leg?
